Is this build good enough? First-time builder

here is my input on this, i know the guys with money say to get the latest and greatest. but sandy and ivy are still good. i have specced this with a very good cooler, a good quality psu and a decent size ssd as a boot drive with enough space for ya games etc. it comes in under budget (just) register with aria on here and ya get free postage :) im sure you would want to tweak it, but that is your choice. that gpu performs around the same as the 7950, and costs half of the 770 you specced!!

EDIT : oops. I forget to put the ram in ther. Add about £40 for a 2x4gb 1600mhz kit

please, forgive the pressure we created, as i suspect, we are used to pay atleast a bit extra just to get the more respected or proven brand, or newer product.

i see your priority is a great GPU, and overclocking capable CPU+MB, well there you have it, in fact you won't get much more out of your budget. even that SSD you can buy later, but if your old HDD is really old, consider it

And i think, unless you'll keep feeling some odd urge to upgrate things, you might even find yourself having a decend rig for couple years :beerchug:

My HDD's are pretty good and I'm gonna upgrade to a i7 when I have the money :)

Hmm. May I suggest picking up an i7 now? Maybe get a great deal on a second hand one. Seems like a waste of money to buy the i5. Maybe save the money from the ssd. Buy the cpu you have want to end up with. And buy a ssd when you can afford

Will you will be doing any rendering? As you're only 16 i suspect the most intense thing you will do is game and possibly render videos to youtube. The i5 would still be my suggestion for that. The rig you spec'd out looks good overall. I would drop to a lower and cooler and get a MLC ssd and not the TLC 840. the non-pro 840 is nothing great and dies faster than normal ssd drives.

What about a mSata SSD?

Msata is pretty pointless in a desktop. Usually more expensive and they look ugly and on top of that can only go on the motherboard which males it stand out as most are green and many motherboards are black and blue/red. Mine as well go for an ssd made by Samsung,Intel,Crucial,Kingston,Corsair, or Plextor and for the usually cheaper but still good options are Patriot,Adata, and Sandisk.
