As for tubing diameter, there was an extensive test on XS on all tubing diameters which concluded there was next to no benefit for any size... It's all down to aesthetics and personal preference. I'd link you but there are too many threads over there to go through.

if you get 7/16" tubing with 1/2" barbs, the plastic clips would be enough as the tube is quite tight over the barbs, looks better than jubilee clips

Also, regardless of however tight 7/16" tubing on a 1/2" barb is, ive still heard stories about the tubing working its way off and blowing entire rigs. Be safe a throw SOME sort of clip on, even tipties work.

i only have clips on my rad as the hose slid on quite easy, everything else needed alot of strength

Aye, barbs are too close for thick plastic clips. I guess zip ties are ok... I've never used jubilees, well, once. Never had a leak except for once where I didn't tighten the bard up enough on a cpu block...

can't stand the plastic clips personally...fugly or not, jubilee clips are the way to go imo

Ok ill go back to the 1/2" tubing and jubilee clips. It wont look too bad i suppose plus i want as small a chance of my rig frazzling as possible!!

Specialtech has 7/16" - just listed in metric size - 11mm... but it's out of stock in clear variants. Both WCUK and Specialtech should be able to get u 10 foot of Masterkleer 7/16" as a one-off from one of their regular suppliers who definitely stocks it.
