I have a 120GB hard drive for everything (OS, programs, files etc). And a second 60GB hard drive which backs up all my Documents and Emails etc every day.
For me having a backup on a second drive is more important than getting a speed increase from having the OS on one drive.
I used to have the page file on the backup drive which was a bit quicker, but now I've upgraded to 1Gig RAM I've turned the paging off

Way to go mr_fishbulb, I have done the same. Once you have 1 gigabyte of installed RAM, a page file of 1.5 times the installed RAM is more than likely going to be a waste of hard disk space. The exceptions might be if you deal heavily with CAD, database, and music or image editing programs that tax system resources far beyond the average day to day usage.
I read once that you should always keep a disk page file of 2meg because some programs look for hard drive paging file, I have not done this and have not come across a proram that will not work, only time will tell of course.

Even the fastest hard disk is currently over 70X slower than the dual-channel PC2700 DDR memory common in many computers. Let's not even start comparing the hard disk with faster RAM solutions like PC3200 DDR memory or PC2-4200 DDR2 memory.
So, paging file is only a stopgap solution for the lack of sufficient RAM. As long as you use the paging file, there will always be performance degradation. The ideal solution for insufficient RAM is always more RAM, not more Virtual Memory. But since we can't afford all the RAM we want, a paging file is necessary for us to run today's memory guzzling programs.

If it is not advisable to disable Virtual Memory why is there a radio button in window to allow this function?

Afaik the radio button is meant for things like Itanium servers with like 128gb of ram.
Read all that article and others besides, most were written when the norm was to have 128gig or maybe 256gig of memory, because of the memory hike now i,e, 1 to 4 gig then this becomes less of an issue.
I addressed in my previous posts that some say it it prefered to have a small paging file for some programs, I have tried most if not all various permutations pertaining to virtual memory, and find that having no page file works best for me with no adverse problems.
