is it safe to run 4.8 at 1.416v 24/7?

Alright I got my cpu/liquid cooling, mobo, ram ect for the ultimate PC upgrade and I used some guide to overclock to 4.8 ghz and it works nice. My cpu doesnt ever get over 65 degrees C under 40 minutes of prime95 and after constant streaming starcraft 2 while i play on highest settings it never went over 62.

Is it ok to run this 24/7 ? or should I clock down when I am not doing long streaming sessions.

What CPU are you using, my 2500k is running 4.8 @ 1.35 volts maybe you could try lowering your voltage a bit. Youll have to look for the max safe voltage for your CPU.

im using 2700k, I just put this because i looked at a guide that said "put these settings to get guranteed 4.8ghz in sandybridge cpu" and changed all the stuff.

this is my first time overclocking and I didn't want to mess up.

so I lower voltage by .02 and try again? and once I blue screen running p95 i should raise voltage .04 from that point?

Following those guides is not a good idea mate as CPUs are different whats good for one might kill another. Just keep lowering your voltage and stability test until failure then up it until your are stable again. The less volts the better. What are your other settings.

That is pretty good for a 2600k/2700k.They need a little more juice than a 2500k to run 8 threads. But if you can lower vcore voltage its preferred

Tcase(73.6c) is a little higher on these 1155 chips.

But it looks like you have one nice 2700k that could run 5.4ghz+ in benchmarks.

alright here is what I am its good right? I might be able ot actually lower voltage a little more. but all these settings look good? (I think cpu-z shows the settings that you edit in bios right?)

actually I got it to 1.36

I think I could probably get it lower if I wanted but I guess 1.36 is fine for 24/7 use. I have had prime running at 1.36 for about an hour and a half now and the max temp is 63 degrees.

A lot of people keep mentioning 2600k and how it overclocked did I just get lucky with my 2700k or is 2700k really that much better?

There is no way to tell if the 2700K is better or worse. It was just another way for Intel to make money out of the 2600K chip. It's a marketing scheme which people (not saying you did fall for it) fall for.

trust me I didn't fall for it

My brother gets the deal from intel retail edge, He got the cpu for 80$ but he wanted it for himself, and I wanted it for myself, we agreed that I will give him a little profit and I will still save money, I got it for 240$ he did the work for it so I am lucky he let me have it

but it saved me 100$ and would have been cheaper than buying a 2600k

I was actually thinking they would have a deal on the 2600k but than 2700k came out a few days before the deal so I got it then. its a great cpu, without the deal I would have gotten an i5 2500k.

Looks like a nice first timers clock, I've always ben a bit of a nub about OC. But everything seems to look ok to me

just keep widdling down that vcore!

the 2700k is the best of the 2600ks, intel has been speed binning them since a couple of weeks after they released the 2600k.

if you want to get a 5.5ghz sandy you need to get a 27k, or be very lucky with a 25k.

I already tried 5ghz at 1.4v just cause it seemed to run 4.8 at 1.36v so well.... unfortunately it didnt work. I think I will just stick to the 4.8ghz.
