Right im looking to buy an iPhone 3G s from the apple store at £440 quid. What i was wondering is, if i buy this can i then take out an O2 sim only pay monthly deal and use that instead of the pay as you go sim that comes with the iPhone?

Because the pay monthly tariffs that you can get the iPhone on are rubbish.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows the answer.

I did exactly the same thing with a 3G a while ago. Everybody at o2 said "no it cant be done" as did everyone at CPWH. But I tried it anyway and it works fine. The only thing is I didn't get the 'free internet/wifi' access bits.

Ahh good times.. Good plan? or do i get an N97 instead?

Cant really answer that one as I didn't like the iphone (but clearly many do) and after trying out an n97 at Vodafone yesterday I thought it felt like a pile of cheap plastic garbage.

I've got my eye on the new Samsung, Sony and HTC (non-WinMo) touchscreens that have come out / are coming out soon.

Hmm yeh ive tried my friends out and it feels cheap.. (the N97)

As for the other ones i havent really looked into any of them, i like the blackberry storm but the bugs do my head in. Ill have another look around anyways, thanks for the answer jim :)

np dude. My beady eye is on the Samsung i8910 HD, Samsung i7500 or Sony X2 at the mo :)

The iPhone 3GS is a sweet phone mate, you won't be disappointed :)

And yes you can put your SIM in a PayG iPhone, you just won't get the unlimited internet unless you get the bolt-on :)

I believe you wont get the free umm is it BT hotspots that Iphone contract users get?

Some free hotspots anyway that you wouldn't get.

Also @ Jim, I wouldn't go for the Samsung i8910 HD.. My Dad has it and it's alright but not amazing. The screen is something else though but that's about it.

N97 isn't as good as I'd hoped it would be. I changed my mind 5 or 6 times between the N97 and the Iphone 3GS. I ended up going with the 3GS and to be honest, I'm so glad it did. The thing is a truely awesome device.

The latest phones were tested on the Gadget show, N97 didnt fair very well.. it looks like they've crammed too much software or badly coded it and its slow ( if memory serves me the N95 was similar on first release till they sorted it out with an upgrade )

Iphone came out top with the HTC 2nd .. i think.

My mate at work has had four phones since I had the iPhone 2G/3G/3GS, all touch-screen efforts from various manufacturers. He finally gave in and got an iPhone last week and has said (several times in a raised, slightly crazy voice :p), that the iPhone is a far superior device. The thing he noticed first off was how "everything's just so easy and well designed". I've heard a similar story from about 10 people I know who have done similar things. Whilst the iPhone might not be for Jim, it is by far the best single device I've ever owned and I'm a huge gadget maniac :p

I gotta say, the iphone is one of the sweetest phones i've had, but I changed up to a blackberry bold, mostly for work, and i aint looked back yet.
