iPhone 4S Repair

Hi,

My sister managed to drop her iPhone in a sink a few weeks ago and so surprisingly, it no longer works...]
O2 and the Carphone Warehouse aren't interested in trying to repair it, so I thought I'd give it a go myself.

I've fixed my iPod classic a few times, replaced the screen, battery, headphone and hold button etc... so I have a rough idea of how to go about replacing parts - the only issue is finding out which part I'd need to replace...

The phone won't turn on unless connected to power.

When connected, it displays the low battery level and charging sign, then tries to boot, shows the Apple logo, then turns off and repeats the cycle again and again...
Anyone have any idea which part(s) could be affected? Or anyway to test further to determine the parts? Or even a company to send the phone off to to try and get it repaired.

I understand it may be a lost cause, but it's only around 6 months old, and my sister can't really a new iPhone, so if anyone has any advice it would be appreciated.
Thanks :)

To be completely honest, if it was the logic board, which the symptoms your describing points to, its a lost cause. Is it not covered under the accidentals under her home insurance?

You could try to pass it off at the 'Genius' bar, but I really doubt that it would get you that far. Always worth a try though eh? :p

If is gone in sink the liquid indicators[1] inside the headphone jack and the dock connector will have turned red. Generally Apple won't touch a phone that has flagged up like that.

However, last year my cousin spilt something on her iPhone an apple took the phone + £200(ish) and replace the handset. So yeh maybe try the bar.

Oh snap, really? I never knew they did that, kinda smart though. I always have a soft spot with apple products, just the price ;)

Back to OP, I can see if I still have my old 4S knocking around the house, locked to three though..

Looking at the service pricing, here http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_Kingdom&product=iphone, under the 'out of warranty service section', you’re looking at around £150, as it does say "However, an iPhone that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service." so you could go down that route and hope for the best :)
