iPhone 2.0 update leaves many 1st gen iPhones bricked

Zomg, server surge !!

Does sound like a bunch of poor planning, of course the cynical (2ce I`ve used that now) ones amoungst us would point out that the screenie is taken from a Vista pc, and would further the arguement for using inferior hardware/software to upd8 your precious. (j/k)

It would have been gratifying if atleast Apple assured people they could goto an AppleStore (or O2/AT&T place) or something and they`d have a seperate place/inhouse server link to activate it for u. Not ideal for everyone, but it`d be an option for any1 that can`t live without a phone for a day !?!?

Activation stuff sucks imo, it`s a spike in the ass of the whole industry. What was the first online activation thing - who`ver came up with that needs stringing up.

It`ll come out in the wash, w8ing for september myself ;)

Sod the update, 28 hrs after buying a brand new iphone 02 still havent activated it there side (sim card) so I have a nice iphone activated with itunes and apple but still waiting for o2 to pick up there feet as there servers were still down when I rang.

And said it might be as late as monday~tuesday to get them up :nono:

Wouldnt think this is the 21st century would you.

So often the case...why oh why don't they build up the infrastructure to cope or do a timezoned rollout which ties in with serials on the handsets to try and better manage the server side...

Oh Dazza - hope all is well m8

It's bad management. In fact the whole 3G/iPhone 2.0 has been very badly managed and frankly Apple/O²/AT&T should be totally ashamed by their handling of the release.

I still don't have my 3G iPhone that O²/DHL said was to be delivered friday and was allegedly out for delivery but never turned up. I have a strong suspicioun that the courier rather liked the look of it....

Your not the only one kempz tonnes of people in the same situation.

o2's servers finally started working today.........just, they imputted my details to the credit check only for it to be refered as some muppet forgot to write down how long I had been living at my old address, si after they wrote in 10 they put it all back on the system then went home.

So now Ive got to wait until monday to get my phone number and see if all is well.

What they should have done is open the main stores the really big ones at around 6am then the medium stores around 8am then the smaller stores at around mid-day would have saved so much hassle and the servers might have worked tbh, but no 8.02 and by 8.03 meltdown.:nono:

My guess is they never had it to ship.

I never actually went ahead and ordered the phone and I had a txt msg appologizing for my disapointment ?!?

Read on some O2 or Apple forum about stores having a really small amount a week or similar..

Meh, when the dust settles we`ll be using them with tissues at the ready.
