Intel’s Gift for Enthusiasts – Affordable Chips with Unlocked Multipliers

Yay, socket 1156 means I took the right upgrade path a few months back haha.

But seriously, if these come out and are affordable (I'd say upto about £250 looking at current i5 prices) then that would be great for the overclocking community :) Always wanted an Extreme Edition chip but no way I could ever afford one

If this happens I will have a very good reason to upgrade to core i5.

Im still using a Q6600 lol. This CPU is fast but ancient at this stage. Im due a big upgrade now. Ill sell my current CPU , ram and motherboard to make up some of the price. (I see you have the same CPU , motherboard and CPU cooler as me)

i have 2 q6600's and one of them is a real amazing overclocker does 3.7ghz and this one is sittin happily at 3.5 atm

I can push to 3.5 but its unstable. Its stable at 3.45ghz though but I am settled at 3.3ghz. I still want to upgrade though. A core I7 would be sweet if it wasnt so expensive.

this ones sittin at 3.5 on a crappyish cooler, gettin a true 120 extreme should have been delivered today but i might get it 2moro so i can try and push it even more :) then ill get the other q6600 out the rig and see if i can beat 3.7 with that im pretty sure it will do 3.8 maybe higher :)

Nice! My mate had his Q6600 running at umm I think it was 3.6. Wish I could push my Q8200 to anything near that but oh well :p

try and pick yourself up a second hand g0 q6600 like i did mate one cost £75 the other cost me £85 and imagine the fun u could have overclocking :)

this is nice i did want to upgrade to i5 but couldent aford it this just makes me want to upgrade more now :)

This may look like a no-brainer but,the way Intel has binned its Wolfdale chips, such as the E5200 this has a high multiplier because it it crippled in the FSB department. These unlocked chips are likely to have a low QPI/Bus limit therefore needing a very high multi to appeal to enthusiasts. Yes they may well clock to very high speeds if you have ln2 etc, but for the average user a 'normal'chip may yield better performance.

I am still on a e6850 and they still havent made a CPU that makes me want to run out an upgrade. I remember when the CPU needed to be upgraded every 2 - 3 years to keep up.
