Intel X299 specifications leak alongside i9 naming scheme

Look at us, selling our souls without second thought :p

But yeah, used to run the x7x series GPUs before going all in for a x8x Ti (kinda had to with the monitor I bought) but from there on in it gets easier if you can sell for a decent price and then add towards the new gen.

Regardless of being able to sell my current parts that'd need replacing, the new HEDT remains a large investment, most likely (not to think of adding an M.2 (because it'd be senseless not to) and perhaps a new AIO depending on whether or not Corsair will release new brackets for H105 (doubt it because it's quite old now) so that'd be: CPU, motherboard, quad RAM (I'd settle for the more affordable 3-3.2GHz), ~AIO, M.2 --at with a big fat 21% tax here!).

Nevertheless, let's see what prices they'll come in at but I don't have to jump on at day 1 (prefer not to, BIOS quirks, premium day 1 prices and all), but man oh man do I want that 7820X!

Yeah, I'd wager they'll stick to the same prices and simply counter with more power and more variety.

AMD really only have a few chips to choose from: the R7 1700, R5 1600, R5 1500X, and R5 1400. All the rest are filler. The R3 range will bring an extra little somethin'-somethin', but it won't be high-end as we know. These new 12-core and 16-core CPU's are starting to look absolutely necessary. And Ryzen 2/+ should not be delayed if it's at all possible.

Intel on the other hand will have the '5Ghz' 7700K and 7600K, soon have the 8700K and 8600K six core CPU's (or whatever they're going to be called), and now these new Kaby Lake-X and Skylake-X CPU's, most with different specifications. That's far more variety and options. They'll have more motherboards, more support for smaller form factors, greater memory availability, higher overclocking. AMD have performance to price ratio at the moment, and that's only in multi-threaded applications.

This is the only reason why I haven't gone Ryzen, since no mITX options really. Might opt for the 7900X in the future, IF an mITX option is available. And not like what happened with X99, where only one manufacturer did an mITX motherboard, which was basically locked down to their own custom CPU cooler.

lol what are you talking about locked down to their custom cooler?

The Asrock could take massive AIOs.

Rocked an Asrock board for years, not bad, but not the best either. I would understand if he would prefer to opt for a different brand.

I'm going to get an X299 Strix myself. Big fan of their BIOS and updates, OC socket, designs in general, features etc.

Nope, look at this image... See the wholes where the hold down screws goes to then screw down for example an H100i?... It's not square, like on an H100i, so therefore it would fit. I know, cause I actually tried it as well.

And that is why Asrock included their own custom CPU cooler for just this motherboard, which is this:

And here is an example of the ONLY AIO that was actually compatible with this motherboard, due to this custom bracket that Asrock included:

Which also sucked, since that AIO was just horrible. Not the same level of quality as such of Corsair (I know, cause I also tried it with this motherboard).

It wasn't that, I would have loved to have my then 5820K 6c/12t CPU in my mini rig. But as I've explained above, that just wasn't the case for X99 unfortunately. Which I hope will be with X299.

Yeah true, oddly enough though, ASUS and their Strix on their Z270I mITX board, lacked somewhat features. Which I think is a bit of an "standard" these days and I was chocked to realize it. To basically have 1 single fan header and no USB 2.0 header.

We can brag all day but X99, X299 are always been workload platforms. If you are investing in business, and you really need it... it will pay it self off. If you want it to show off, or just to have it, and you are not rich, then work harder.

Anyone know if there's any info on if there will be any mITX motherboards with X299?.

Or if it will be another X99, where it's not exactly for gaming and "average" user, but more production etc.

It will depend a lot on the package size. If it's enormous that just makes it harder to do.

So for right now? I would say I doubt it dude. It was very unusual for Asrock to do that, as X58 and X79 did not get any ITX boards.

Any way tbh if you are eyeing up X299 then it's highly likely that Ryzen will offer much more for less, if and when the ITX boards become available.

It's also going to depend on whether it is worth having too. Broadwell E bought higher IPC but it ran at reduced clocks so ended up pretty much even with Haswell E. If Skylake E winds up the same then only the massively threaded ones will make the investment worth it and even then like I said AMD is likely to be spanking them silly in core count and price.

Looks good but I'm done giving my money to Intel, AMD proved to me with Ryzen that high end chips that can both game and do productivity work do not need to cost what to the average worker would be 1 months worth of wages.

the 7920X apparently is due to launch in august, my birthday is in august, no chance that i'll be able to afford one of these though XD or any of them most likely

I'm eyeing that i7 7740K, seems like a good alternative to the 7700K / S1151 platform. I guess you could say my entry into the S1151 platform met with an untimely end faster than expected, and I have no desire to buy this again. Which makes the new X299 suddenly interesting to me with that Kaby Lake X CPU.

I just hope they will actually release some mATX boards at release this time around, considering the Kaby Lake X lineup seems more directed at gamer's (to me at least)
