Intel Sandy Bridge (1155) vs AMD Bulldozer (AM3+)

Just read a few websites saying how good the new AMD FX (Bulldozer) CPU's are going to be.

Should I get an Intel i7 2600k (Quad Core) or an AMD FX 8150P (Eight Core)

I will be watercooling on an XSPC RX360 Radiator.

I would wait until BD is released there is no point in deciding until you can read legit reviews and compare them both properly. No one knows how good or bad BD is yet, I don't think BD will be better than the 2600k though, more in line with the 2500k but I could be wrong.

Supposedly Bulldozer is out in a week or two so it's not long until we find out which is the fastest but if you go with SB you can upgrade to Ivy Bridge which will be faster than BD.

True. I do prefer Intel for some strange reason so I think i'll just get the i7 2600k, then possibly upgrade it to an Ivy Bridge later on.

I am using the i7 930 at the moment, as you can see from my sig. HyperThreading is fantasic by the way!

I was asking the same question in another thread. It's too early. I do hope BD causes Intel to cut prices.

though you could wait for SB Extreme. It'll be alot better and a satisfying improvement, worth the wait and saving the extra money.

I know most 16 year old's don't afford and need much more than a 920 for todays education and gaming so you should consider this very realisticaly.

It's not unrealistic that he can afford high-end part, some teens since they were 14 and actually save their money. I'm 16 also and living with you parents just gives you a pure income lol.

. Just get ahead and wait because SB Extreme will overwhelm everything because it replaces X58/i7 900's and you might be upset if your saved cash is gone on a SB build or your parents say "You've got a SB build and SB Extreme chips don't fit init, are you kiddin' @wtf!"

. Intel SB Extreme is a system designed to overclock extremely, like X58 i7 9XX's. In many respects replacing X58 with 1155 a motherboard is a downgrade. You could OC the 9XX to stretch it till next year, get a NH-D14

on that 930. Q1 I think SB Extreme is forecast.

I have worked for every last 'penny'. I had to buy my own previous computer and screen, keyboard, etc. I did not earn 'pocket money'. I actually worked in the retail business.

It is an advantage living at home. I work full time but I live at home and so the money I earn goes to whatever I want, rather than using that same money for bills, food, etc.

It would cost you more than $1900 but SB E would be what i would do.

Like Jerome said, stick with your i7 930.

Or just upgrade your CPU to a better i7?

I originally didn't want to spend more than $2,000 but when i saw the parts i wanted and decided on, the end price was around 4k

haha.

So glad I haven't invested a lot into AM3. Well, SB may be what I get next. AMD didn't get it together. I give up. This is just like Duke Nukem Forever.
