ITX AM3+ Boards!

Right I am all for AMD but I am not an AMD fanboy I have and do use Intel CPU's but I really really want too build an ITX AM3+ rig but god dam it! there is not a single board!!!! WHY?!

In all honesty what are your opinions on this?
Yes it can be argued that this socket is just about dead but this aside should there be a range of ITX AM3+ motherboards?

This is NOT AN EXCUSE to start arguing or debating about AMD VS Intel this is just a discussion about the neglect of an ITX board for the AM3+ socket.

So what are your thoughts on this?
Do you want an ITX option for this socket?
Would it be possible for an ITX board to support the 125W TDP's of some of the FX CPU's?

There just isn't enough demand, itx boards don't sell nearly as much as matx and atx. If you really want an AMD itx build just go to the FM2 socket or get matx.

Hmmmm fair point shame in my opinion, I do really like the FX CPU's and who knows there may be a demand for them if the option was there.

There isn't really. Those who want one go for the older 970 socket ones (which aren't designed to run most FX cpus and can't OC). Its an ancient socket so no one really makes motherboards for them, I think theres only been one new one in the last 6 months.

The 8xxx cpus are too power hungry for any current non ATX mobos.

If a company made them they would have no competition so they would get all the sales but who knows how many people would want one. Agreed it is a shame but after FM2 AM3+ has been left in the dust. If i am correct AMD are making a new socket because they are making 12 core opterons on the architecture or something and the socket cant handle it so i would assume they would make some sort of consumer option available.

Unless FX cpus suddenly get a huge perfomance boost (and subsequent press coverage) its a dead socket.

AMD's server sockets are different from their consumer sockets. So I doubt there won't be a new socket :(

They already have had 16 core Opterons for a good couple of years now and the consumer version of that you see is the 8 Core CPUs as they are practically the same thing just half the number of cores. As others have said there is just not enough demand for an ITX AM3+ motherboard so it isn't worth a manufacturers time designing and producing one.

It was hard enough to get a good FM2+ itx board, good luck with am3+
This is sadly true :l.

For the record, the FM2 cpus (such as my beloved Athlon x4 750k) actually have stronger individual cores then the majority of Bulldozer (and I think one of the Piledriver) FX cpus. When I recently tested my 'gabecube' against my friend's fx6100, the Athlon pulled ahead by around 10fps on Dayz standalone, which is the least AMD cpu friendly game. Both systems were using a 650ti I must add.

Supporting a higher power draw isn't really a problem for a miniITX board, I mean there are plenty of Intel ITX boards out there that will support high overclocks.

The problem is more that the AM3+ platform still needs a separate Northbridge chip as well as a Southbridge chip. Given that space on the board is pretty constrained, it's difficult to squeeze onto the board. Intel has had the Northbridge integrated onboard the CPU die since Sandy Bridge for instance.

Although, you can get some pretty damn good miniITX FM2+ boards given that they don't need a Northbridge chip. I've a FM2+ miniITX one from Gigabyte, and it's loaded with features.

ASUS used to make miniITX AM3 motherboard's but droped them due to lack of interest like the ASUS M4A88T-I Deluxe AM3 AMD 880G Mini ITX.
I think zotac and sapphire had some ITX AM3 one's to that where droped for the same reason's.

What architecture makes up the x4 750k? I've only ever heard good things about it.

Its basically AMD's A10 APU (the top of the range last gen one) without the GPU die on it. Because of the lack of GPU on it, its half the price but OCs better and runs cooler. Honestly for the money (£55) you can't beat it.

-edit- my one is paired with a 650ti and it makes a great little steambox build.

Definitely a little gem. Really considering purchasing it even if it's just for testing, £55... wow. Too used to intel's bloated prices

For small budget builds AMD is where it is at ^_^. My only complaint is that the majority of motherboards aren't that good for OCing. You usually have to buy a more expensive motherboard than processor!
