Intel P4 650J

I was just about to order the 560J when I saw they have the new 650J in stock. It's 3.4Ghz with 2Mb cache. Does anyone have any details of this CPU.

Then there's the motherboard support. I was getting the DFI 875P-T but I doubt it will work because of it being 32bit.

Any info would be appreciated.

Just incase anyone's interested. I got it working in a DFI 875P-T with the help of an evaluation, pre-beta bios.

and ... ?

Nobody seemed to know anything about the 650 2M cache emt64 bit CPU & if it would work on an 875 chipset. Hence my unanswered post. I therefore took the risk & bought it blindly. So if anyone is thinking of getting one on the DFI875P-T, with the evaluation bios you will be o.k.

Things like games i doubt it will make much difference. All that adding xtra cache does is speed up things that take advantage of netburst command queuing, (media encoding being one of the best examples) and sse2/3 and the like.

the reason amd's tend to kick butt in games / benching is they have a short command queue and high fpu. This allows code that is 'un-optimised' in terms of instruction sets (like games) run like stonk!

What im interested in is how they will fare against A64 once we get xp64.

thanx. How dya rate this cpu against the fx55 for benching?

sw

Haven't got an FX55 at the moment so I cant really compare. I've ordered my headkit for my Mach II so by weekend it will be under the fridge, I'll post some benches.

At the moment just got it a 4Ghz on air but haven't really tried pushing it further.

so th ep4 was @ 5.2 gig and the fx55 was @ 2.6 gig stock hmm sounds bad for intel wonder how it performs against a normal 775 p4

Those tests do seem a little biased towards the AMD's strong points with the exception of the audio encoding where the 4Ghz P4 still beats the FX55.

We can all pick benches that show whichever processor you have in a good light.

Anyway back to the 650 it's working fine at the moment in the DFI 875P-T. Currently running at 17 x 261 under the Mach II. I'm just waiting for some Gskill 4800 to come so I can see how far it will go. (on PC4000 at moment).

I get over 80K on Aquamark, 14400+ 3dmark03 & 6000+ 3dmark05 with a 6800GT.

have u tried runnin the memory @ 5/4 mate if so what clocks do ya get

I did a few benches in the 4.8-4.9Ghz region @ 5:4 but didn't have time to check stability or anything. My new ram should finally be here monday/tues so I didn't have a proper go.
