Intel Ivy Bridge 3570K Max Overclock on Air Cooling

Hello there,

Looking to buy a Core i5 and im looking to use an Air Cooler. I'd like to know if anyone has got one and if so can you post the results your got for a good overclock with the CPU with Air Cooling i don't want water cooling i like the traditional air cooling so if someone has some results could you please share them?

No need to have posted results for this, it is well documented. Though it would be interesting to see what OC3D members get. Don't think we have an IB OC thread yet?

On air you'll get 4.5+ comfortably. Something like the NH-D14 will push towards but probably not make, 5ghz. The 3570k will do slightly less on air than a 2500k because it will run slightly hotter but the performance will be the same (it is more efficient clock for clock).

Thanks for the info, I have looked around and it seems 4.5GHz its most you will get but hey! who's complaining for a mid-end CPU in the range that's pretty cool

I think there is more to come out of these chips for the more adventurous (lapping the heatsinks and changing the IHS TIM). I've just ordered my 3570k and I'm determined to break 5ghz on water cooling.

Ultimaltely though you probably won't notice the difference between a 4.5 and 4.8 ghz OC. Definitely won't if you are gaming or using it for everyday use.

I play Flight Simulator X which loves a system that is over clocked i have noticed a massive difference in its performance when my AMD Processor is at 4GHz from 3.2 so Clock Speed will be a top priority for me when i go intel.

Yea well it is a different ball park when you talk about an AMD cpu and an intel cpu. The per core performance is massively different but in any case:

That suggests the sim is limited to 20fps anyway, no? Or do you edit the .cfg?

Surely FSX can't be a harder cpu work out than modern games?
