Hi everybody,

Need a bit of advice, I got somebody offerning me 2 x e7 2890v2 , 500euros for the pair, they are both engineering samples..

Thats 60 threads in total !!

Anyway, what are the chances of ES samples going tits up in the future ?
Would I be risking throwing 500e down the drain ?

Could anybody reccomend me a motherboard to go with these if I decide to buy ?

Cheers,
FTLN

I'd have no idea on the motherboard, sorry. Look for a dual slot board for the CPUs... I think Asrock do one?

As for ES? they are usually just slow clocked regular CPUs with locked multi and FSB etc (and the strap and the voltage) but work as they should.

That's for the actual E7 2890V2 not an ES.

OK apparently they are socket 2011 but...

Sadly they do not tell you on the Ark there whether they are Ivy, Haswell etc which is really odd. So I have no idea which board you would need, sorry. My guess would be though that the board will set you back more than the CPUs.

From what I can make out it's socket 2011. X79 on desktop and something like this you would need to use two.

OK so apparently it is Ivybridge, so you would need something like that Asrock board. However, it only lists E5 not E7 as supported, so tbh man I would leave it alone.

Eureka !

Sadly they are usually ran in quad configs and that is the only dual socket board I can find and I bet you would need to lease your liver out to buy it. Leave it alone dude.

Your ES is no different to retail - ES basically means "property of Intel" and who ever got given them can be in a lot of trouble.

As for latesting - its just the same as a retail cpu but you might have a CPU's from closer to the centre of the wafer (thats good)

As for the board Ive reviewed a couple dual xeon boards :)

Cheers for the replies guys, so If my thinking cap is working correctly :

I need to find a LGA 2011-1 motherboard, and there is only one on the market that costs 5000$ , ha ha no wonder hes offering them at such a cheap price...

I think I'll give them a miss... Such a shame :(, especially since DDR3 ECC sticks go for peanuts these days... Could have also had 64gb samsung kit for 150e ..

Yeah it's a shame they stopped at 10c 20t on Ivy on regular 2011 :( Maybe it just didn't have the space needed?
