Intel demos anticheating tech for online gaming

Yea what ham said, you cannot remove humans from the detection process really. That is why EDAC is so effective, there is currently absolutely no way of bypassing it and if it does make a mistake, the SS is easily discarded by an admin. Steam should stop wasting their time and money on all these dead end mods and updates and introduce something like EDAC that takes random screenshots, or creates a console command that allows players to nominate a suspicious player for an SS, which will be taken when say 3 players nominate the same player. Then someone can scroll through the days SS's and EASILY see who is hacking

yeh, true

at the same time, it could just be programed to determine if someone is cheating, as it would show up, wouldnt it? :S

more hardware based banning?

cheater cheats, gets banned & sells the pc to someone else who then cannot use the pc for online gaming?

makes so much sense

This is Intel we're talking about?

*thinks of unfair practices*

Nah, no thanks TBH :)

idd :(

next thing, they'll have internet police who arrest you if your suspected of cheating

there are more serious things in life to worry about than cheating in online games.

I agree, cheats need to be removed somehow. Hardware banning (like pb did and got prosecuted for) is not the way forward.

Problem with human anti-cheat systems is they are open to corruption - look at Punkbuster. I killed an admin twice and I was banned from the server for life...

I know all about that.

I got banned from a network in the uk via pb without any proof or anything. Also there was a quake3 clan on this same network that was made up of just admins who banned whole clans if they got beat. In the course of the league, 4 clans were banned. 1 clan was banned 3 times in total and still won the league by beating the admin clan lol.

The one person who was the most corrupt would use an alias and use the rcon to get access to be able to spec people on the opposition and tell his team where they all were.

Until one day he did it to my clan and got caught out and kicked from the server. His clan also came onto our server and got kicked by our custom pb for hex edited exe's lol

This is probably why steam will not ban based on users views.

People should really just grow up and stop using hax. If you suck that bad then just practice. All this stupid software and user based banning is rediculous.

crappy idea tbh.

as long as people code cheats theres going to be nothing to stop them and people using them imo

QFT

There is no way to stop cheaters, human intervention is probably the best bet, but still can be circumvented.

Yeah, was gonna add over the years I`ve seen 100s perhaps 1000s of legitimate players be banned from mmos after the insertion of automated banning processes.

I know u can say "how u know they weren`t cheating?" and to be fair a real large % of actual cheaters do get caught. But networks do do some stange things that appear on logs as cheats - notable speed cheating.

There are ways that u can demonstrate to an online company (if they`re interested) of a `false` cheat in action, things like server crossing does it a whole lot.

That being said, a refined process, and a support line that is human, could pickup the shortfall. Some hosters just won`t want to know tho, if it detects u as a cheat - u`r just banned end-of.

I can't stand people who use aimbots, speed hax, wireframes/bluewalls... but unless something is made--human or automated--thats 100% objective and effective, it isn't worth using because the first person that gets banned who doesn't cheat is screwed just because he's that damn good. Not to mention he wasted his money...

/-¯ury

if you do find an aimbotter call me and i'll take care of 'em...
