Na not really... Even things like Nero are going to see big ol jumps as long as they create Nero 9 or whatever properly.

That's the key. Applications that like 8 threads are pretty rare. Not even the Windows kernel fits that bill.

Not a surprise for windows... Thing is when they are available, serious rendering and encoding programs will use them. Even on programs that don't, the architectural improvements will see a gain over Core 2.
