The new 965 chipset support Kentsfield, for those that are intersted in going Quad core this year ;)

This is the board for you, although there is no multi GPU capability the ability to run quad core CPU with a decent GPU (G80 perhpaps) in 2006 is something the 'anti sli/crossfire' squad should definitely embrace, given its a cheaper board too ;)

There are currently issues with running a 975 chipset mobo with quad core.

Samsung do a great DVD/CD writer (reviewed in CPC) that is SATA for a snip at only £35 ;)

You are right though, if you are still using IDE devices this needs to be considered (added cost) - as does the amount of SATA devices you have versus the number of sockets available on your chosen board.

Kentsfield at 3.3ghz is outperforming Conroe @ 3.9ghz :)

I think im gonna go for an Asus P5B :)

and ide-sata converter FTW !

I see sales of this gadget rising over the next few months :)

It has to be said that Conroe users will enjoy more performance from the 975 based ASUS delux board.

3dmark05 and 3dmark06 - but it has 8mb of shared cache, so would be interesting to see single threaded results also I guess.

Lets not forget that kentsfield is not true quad core - it's two conroe cores on one chip (so does that mean it has 2x4mb cache?)

Yea, its 2x4MB cache. A single core cant use all 8MB.Maybe with time and better integration...

All the current Conore bords surport Quad core chip Kentsfiled

The 975 are running fine as is the bad axe

Asus are bring out 2 newer bord latter on, dual and quad socket for Kentisfield

So you can have

8 cores 16mb catch

or 16 cores and 32MB catch

Tidy eh

Thats very partially true 8)

FACT: Those who have tested Kentsfield say that there is an issue with 975 based boards and overclocking Kentsfield and have put it past BIOS/Driver updates and lay issue with the chipset itself.

Poor overclocking? No thank you.
