No real issue for me, i've never been the type to upgrade every one or two gens, I would need a new mobo regardless, i'm gonna be moving from a 2500k.

I've waited a good while, I remember saying to myself as soon as skylake rolls around i'm going to upgrade, then the same with kabylake, now coffeelake there's an actual decent jump in the CPUs it seems. Won't know for sure until they're tested though.

Who am I kidding maybe my PC will hold out until Tiger Lake...

If you are one to hold onto hardware very long, I'd suggest Ryzen. You can upgrade the cpu but keep the board for the next 4 years

You're right, still it makes me think that I should wait until Zen 2, hopefully that's out around the same time and I can make a choice.

Sounds reasonable. No need to update if you don't feel the need too. Mine as well save up and get the best possible so you can hold onto it a little longer in the future

I always thought when competition hit you with lower prices and better products,you should answer with same or at least a bit lower price. But it seems intel has new tactics unseen in recent history.

They are relying on mindshare and high clocks to keep their prices high. If they show sign of weakness? tbh I think it would actually hurt their rep even more. Because then, even their loyal fans who paid, and I quote to "Have the very best no matter what the cost" will then realise that that cost could have been lower.

Of all of the forums I post on I have only seen two cases of really awful fanboyism. One here, and one on B-T. And in both cases both of them sounded like complete 'holes. Like complete and total 'holes. "I don't care because I am rich fwa fwa fwa I've got a Porsche !". If Intel all of a sudden made it so that they couldn't get the same theatre going online and boasting? yeah, they'd be down with us poggers.

I really don't understand why, even if you were stinking rich, why you would pay more than you need to. I mean, that's how these D-bags get rich in the first place by being tight ! why would you pay £300 just for a higher overclock ?
