8350k vs i5-8400

Hey guys, quick question (that I will end up checking google after) but its one that I just thought of:

Which do you wager would be better for gaming - i3-8350k or i5-8400 ?

depends on the games you play and if they are CPU bound but I would imagine the king of gaming CPU will still be the i5

Awesome thanks for the input :) oh...somehow my initial post is gone, maybe I accidentally deleted it...thanks brain/browser.

Whatever xD, thanks for the info once again!

Well, I guess it's time to upgrade soon... The real question though is: is it worth to upgrade from an i7-4770K to an i5-8600K? Since I'm only a gamer and occasional streamer, I got myself the i7 back in 2013, to have the extra threads for the stream. Performance-wise it would make sense, of course, but would it be worth to upgrade for just 2 more cores/4 more threads, or should I rather save for the i7... Argh, decisions ._.

I guess the smartest way would be to wait for DDR5 and Intel's 9th or even 10th Gen, right? Considering how long we have to wait for DDR5...

tbh when you factor in the new motherboard your gonna need and the DDR4 you may as well go Ryzen if you need multi-threaded and for gaming they are not that far behind in most titles very close in others and ahead in some. and at a much nicer price point.

Yeah you definitely get more for your money on AMD. No doubt.. You should get even more soon, too. Though the price increase over Ryzen (back to the full RRP) may make them not worth having. Especially when the 1600 is only about £150 give or take a fiver right now.

Keep an eye on the 1700 prices. Very nice upgrade from a Haswell I7 tbh.

Yeah the Ryzen CPUs are going on an even bigger price drop in the US right now with the 2xxx series coming out.

That said though the 8th gen Intel stuff is still the fastest.

Yes, but to the expensive of massive heat output. Especially since they all use tooth paste, while all of AMD’s Ryzen CPUs are soldered, which was one of the main points for me anyway.

See, I totally forgot about Ryzen 2xxx. I will see how much better the 2nd Gen is and then I'll have to check the prices. I guess they won't increase clocks by THAT much, but instead increase the efficiency, making them draw less power from the wall, so getting a 2nd Gen Ryzen would be a nobrainer at some point.

I would ask yourself this question "Does my PC struggle with what I use it for in day to day tasks?" If the answer is no save your money and get the most out of the hardware you already have. I am also on Haswell but my 4790K still does what I need it to do without a struggle :)

Pretty much sums my opinion up on it. And now even if Nvidia release a tempting new card. I need to convince myself, does my current GPU have problems? No? then keep using it and save for something useful.

While Intel do release the faster chips albeit small increments, until they come along with something with better heat production, ill stick with mine.

I mean I want the new card because my 1080 is just over the minimum performance for 1440p. I'd like to have more. In AAA games I don't always get the FPS I want.
