The latest Intel CPUs are upon us, from the 6 Core i7-6850K to the full-on 10 Core i7-6950X. We see how they perform.

total fail intel looking other sites test review shows 6800-6950 +2% sometimes -1-2% performance vs 3930-5930K and this after 4 years , and the 6950X would be good for 1000-1100$ max. Meaning you getting the same performance that was in 2012 =)

It will not stop people from buy them, Cause people like Intel over AMD and it's just the way it is.

I think i'd just rather get something like the the E5 2680v4 for about £100 more, as that is effectively its closest price competitor. Anyone buying the Broadwell E for anything other than compute reasons is clearly doing it for exorbitant e-peen reasons, not logical reasoning.

great article, as always.
These babies look like some amazing cpus, great OC potential as well. Curious about the future test with an updates bios :)

As someone that makes his living doing 3D Rendering I'd rather get 2 E5-2630v4 10 core CPUs with change to spare. Might not be great for gaming but I wouldn't pay the extra just so I could game on it as well. You would also be more productive getting a cheaper 6 core processor and using a render farm, thats an awful lot of 4K visuals with the price difference, no workstation downtime, money saved and gaming performance.

the undervolting is what impressed me with this. 10 cores and 20 threads @ stock 1v shows how much the manufacturing of 14nm makes a difference. the next gen of mobile chips are probably going to start really closing the gap between them and the desktop chips.

Thanks for the review, they are always stellar and they are one of the only rundowns on new processors that I check out because they are so thorough. I don't know if this is the right place for this, but if I can offer one note, there is a small mistake I have noticed you make over and over again: the reference to wPrime as "wPrime95." wPrime and Prime95 are VERY different programs. wPrime has absolutely nothing to do with primes, and is used as a benchmark. Prime95 is a prime number proving program that continues to discover the largest prime numbers that we know of, but has a feature that is widely used for stress testing.

Yeah Ive been doing it by mistake for ages, I even said prime95 in the video this time! Thanks though dude, Ill try and remember to change it in future!

Local pricing for AU.
$959 (6850K)
$1,659 (6900K)
$2,579 (6950X)

My wallet is glad I don't run anything that would justify the core count required. Seriously nice performance tho!

Great review as always

Thanks for a great in-depth review. It really put that cost/benefit issue in a realistic light for me. I would of couse be glad to own the 8-core, but cannot justify it. I was recently given an E5-2690v1 (8 core/16 thread) Sandy and I think it will be good to run, so from a cost perspective it's hard to beat. And, with the results in the thorough review, I am really sure it's the best to go with for now. Intel is getting a little bit high-priced for just getting into to see what it's all about, sorry. Your great review just set that in concrete for me.
All the very best, and keep it up.
BTW: Your ASUS Rampage 4 Black Edition review (Jan-2014) was also very good indeed! That's why it will be the new board for me and the E5 (if all goes well).

And to think people thought the 10 core would be out at the 999 USD mark, giving rise to a more affordable 8 core.

So much for that....

Woah, how can the OC version of 6950X gain that much amount of performance?

I'm proud of my 6850K; it really kick ass!
