Inspired by SCAN swordfish

Like many people I was inspired by the Scan Swordfish desk/computer. So here is my idea of a computer/desk.

There is a few things I'm thinking about changing like the shapes of windows also I don't know where to put the Blu ray drive and fan controller yet. But just thought I'd get some thoughts and opinions on the design itself.

I'm hoping that I can get some funds together to actually build this over summer so shall soon be putting a lot of overtime ect into work

Thanks for looking!

Looks fantastic good luck with the project, will the glass door be clear or smoked.. looks a winner to me..

Great desgin for a compu-desk

You could use a external bluray drive, connect it when needed or underneath the desk, at the top, you could build a small enclosure to allow a internal bluray to fit and also your fan controller. the enclosure, drive and fan controller would be flush against the front edge of the desk. That's how i would do it

It's a great design, and I also assume you've seen mine.

I thoroughly recommend using Google Sketchup for 3D modelling.

It'll certainly be good if you pull it off, and I think mounting the motherboard at an angle is a nice idea.

With regards to materials, what were you thinking? I would recommend good quality MDF as it can be painted easily, or if you're looking for strength plywood.

A good source for Acrylic/Perspex is Kitronix, it's where I've got mine in the past.

I might try and hide it a bit attached to the side of the pc area.

Yeah yours looks brilliant.

I use Google Sketchup but I'm not 100% great at it hence the very basic windows ect

Was thinking MDF as it's fairly cheap and as you said easy to paint. gotta see how much this is actually gunna cost me yet should be interesting.

If you're based in the UK I've always found Wickes to have good prices for sheet mdf, but honestly the price of the wood isn't really the problem. It's the price of the paint! You'd need quite a lot of mdf primer, and then whatever paint you actually want for colour/finish, it can be quite expensive. And of course lots of sandpaper

I have a few people with contacts so hopefully I'll get it done a bit cheaper

also depends how much my next car will cost me. Have you got a link for Kitronix?

Thanks

Apologies, I spelt it wrong in my first post, it's Kitronik and they're store is here http://www.kitronik.co.uk/products/perspex/

I've used them a couple of times for both clear and some red transparent perspex. The prices seem to be decent and delivery was quick.

looks good I like the tilted motherboard idea it may be a bit tricky with the pci slots but once you get it it would defiantly be easier to access I think that's a big thing people forget about with compudesks rear i/o is nearly inaccessible I can't tell but it looks like you're going quad 360 rads? I would go for 2 phobya 1080's instead you would save quite a bit and get much better performance.

Good luck with this mate! Would love to see this coming together, could you make a project log or did you already make one?

Disk Drive and Fan Controller: You could make them protrude out of your desk! that way you could get to them easy... Imagine it......... Press a button and the tray comes out of your desk!!! LOL....
