In the market to buy 2 new SSD's

Ok then, there is something else i can't work out on my OS drive its saying that i have used about 72GB and i can't work out how i have got that much installed on it Windows Update must have used up alot of space on the drive

Disable Page file/Virtual Memory, and Hibernation. Saves a lot of space. Also disable/move restore points so the SSD doesn't constantly write to itself. I did all this an got back nearly 30GB

Yeah makes sense, i think i have disable the Page File, I haven't done Hibernation tho, i might look into it some more, cause windows updates should be like 30GB so it must be those other things.

Sorry if this sounds dumb, what do you mean bye this disable/move restore points

Run "disk cleanup". Open start menu and type in disk it should appear. Run it and then run the "advanced" part. It should come up with old windows updates that are no longer needed. If you have never done it before it'll take a while to calculate/find the files.

Deleting Hibernation is easy. The file is as big as the amount of Ram installed. 8GB of ram installed? 8GB file. 32GB of ram? 32GB file etc.

go to CMD and run it as an administrator, just open the start menu type in cmd, right click run as admin. In the command line type in "powercfg -h off" without the quotes. Hit enter. Done. Now you don't need to but i would recommend looking at the C drive and seeing if you gained anything back. You most likely did but i recommend a restart to make sure it did it correctly.

The restore points? Windows periodically creates these when an event triggers or you manually create one. Ever restore a PC to it's last known restore point? That's what it is. It's an easy fix but i recommend a system image over it despite the space it takes up. Just put it on an external drive.

Thanks for that, I'm a noob when it comes to SSD, i just use them like a normal HDD which i know is wrong.

Its easy to take care of it... No sense in wasting money! We all know how the Aussie tech prices are.

Yeah true, i have run tests on the EVO drive for me the Read speed is way down, compare to other benchmarks i have seen, but i understand that no one runs the same hardware.

I just did the powercfg -h off in CMD i gain back about 12GB without a restart maybe i might gain more back once i do a restart, so used space now is 60GB which is maybe still too high.

I haven't had any dealings thought them so i'm not really sure about them, i have seen with your posts when you were building your new system you said they were good, but everyone gets different service when dealing with these companies

No that wasn't me this is the only post i have made to do with SSD's, i take it your not a fan of corsair ssd's, IMO i'm not really a fan of the samsung evo drive maybe i should have gone with the 840 pro at the time

No, actually I really liked the performance of the Corsair GTX SSDs. However the fact that I went through 3 of them due to failure is another thing. I havent had a single issue with my 840s. And I think there are others on this forum with the same experience. Oustanding performance, poor reliability.

This may seem like a dumb question but you are using the 6G sata cables right?

Yeah i'm using the SATA cables that came with my Ranger motherboard.

Thanks for that, do you know much about the GS series cause the GTX is kinda out of my price range, my 840 EVO is strange cause i getting higher write speeds where the read speed are a lot lower.

The Ranger board does come with 2 3G cables so just make sure you are using the 6G cables

I apologise for adding links to other websites. but I always found Guru3d a good review for SSD.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/corsair-force-lx-256gb-ssd-review.html

charts are from page 8 onwards. The GS is a little slower compared to the GTX. It actually comes out on top of the GTX in some tests if you look at the review. Bear in mind that the review is for the Corsair LX SSD, but Hilbert has the GS results saved and uses them as comparisons.

As stated, using a Sata II cable as opposed to SATA III 6gb really does hamper your performance. It's a very easy mistake to make.

Yeah i know, Ok the Benchmark is read is 466MB's and the Write is 516MB's cause isn't it normally the other way around

Yeah i understand that but the cables are 6G i check it, I like the GS drive cause of the red housing, maybe that is a stupid reason just to like something my biggest problem is i go on looks

Maybe you are just unlucky and have a degraded product?

I can't really comment on the EVO series as I have never had one. Why not try to RMA it and check your newer one. If its poor still switch brand or series.

Maybe, I wonder would age have anything to do with it or SSD's don't have that problem

Everything has a shelf life. I believe you may just be unlucky with a poor product.

Take mass produced cars as an example, they are produced with good quality, but over time the machines/tools used to make these cars wear out and so eventually a substandard (although working) car is produced which eventually has a fault sooner than usual.

silly question number 2. you are plugged into a sata 6 port on the motherboard right?

Yeah, It just comes down to the luck of the draw, I might phone the place where I brought the SSD from to see what they say

To answer #2 yes all of the Sata ports on the ASUS Ranger are 6GB
