In Need Of Some Advice :)

Hey guys, hope everyone is happy, well and enjoying their weekend. Mine is flying by and monday seems so close already! Anyway, I'm in need of some advise from any of the US members out there.

Althought I am only 16, I plan to possibly begin a working life in the states (NY to be exact). Where about should I start? I know I'll need some sort of work permit in order to acctualy begin working. Any ideas where I can apply for one or how long it is until im eligable for one?

If anyone else has move to the US from another part of the world than I'd be extremely egar to know what sort of things they had to do in order to be able to live there properly.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies :D

have a search for the US imagration website, it will provide you with lots of info.

I'm looking at working in new zealand and their imagration site has helped loads.

Hmm It seems I'll need to apply for a 'Green Card'. It says something to do with a green card lottery... Confused

A green card is a permanet resident card. When we moved from Canada we got our green card too. FOr us it took about 3-4 years to recieve a green card. I assume you're living in US with your parents who work? You may have one if they have one.

Nope, quite far from that. I'm only 16 and live in England, UK. I'm hoping to go to america to stay by myself.

P.S I don't mean this in a bad way as to eac away from my family. I have a lot of friends who live in the US and I feel I want to live life differently :)

I helped a friend out from somewhere over there who moved to Venus. I got him working at Whataburger at 16 with minimal crap to put up with. Of course, you have to go through imagration and all that. Most fast foods wont worry about a green card or anything. If you speak English well and can work hard your hired as they say.

Yeh I was planning just to work in just a small fastfood place, anything that will bring in enough to help pay rent really. I wasn't sure if I need a permit to work with any job or if it's only with more higer end jobs. (No offence to anyone who works with fast food :p)

it's a job that needs doing and have your heard how much mcdonalds managers get paid :o

According to my friend, not very much. He IS a manager lol, cant afford his house/land/baby/wife. I thikn its cause hes trying to put to much on one check but meh. You could easily come straight over here, get an ID, and get a job at a fast food resteraunt to pay for things. No biggy.

I would recommend visiting the closest American consulate, they should be able to give you the correct forms and outline the whole process. To legally work in the country you will need a work permit I believe it is called, otherwise you can/will be deported.
