and headphones i dont want a mic i have a seperate one for that i was wanting a good headset without a mic dont know what a good one is any suggestion?

if u want more info post below and ill edit the post

I've heard nothing bad about the asus xonar sound cards, just pick a budget your are comfortable with

not sure about the speakers, but i guess you want a real setup with an amp. do you already own an amp? i don't know that much about the whole sound thing, just trying to clear things up for other people

for headphones i'd look at some from sennheiser

Do you need surround sound really?

The best card you can really buy is the Essence STX (do NOT get a Phoebus). But, the Essence only supports 2.1 through analogue, or more through digital with the adapters - but you're better with analogue tbh.

Headphone wise, look at Beyerdynamic DT770s. I wouldn't really be buying anything else tbh - except maybe the 990s or something if you wanted an open ear design.

I personally have the STX with DT770s, and use an old Sony hifi for speakers, with the phono out from the STX to the phono input on the hifi. I find that perfect for me, but I've never really been one for surround sound. More of a headphone person than speakers I guess.

true the phoebus is for surround and gamming and geared for that where as the stx is geared for 2 channel sound clarity where u could use it for gamming and would have a better sound for music.. as for the headphones not really sure but illl keep looking and ill mostlikly go with the stx for the sound card.

The Essence is still pretty rock solid for gaming on headphones, i use one with some AKG's and the positional is second to none. Set it up with 8 channels and whatnot and it's great.

yeh i wasnt trying to say it wasnt but it gives u alot more versatile areas of approach with that sound card compared to the phoebus

ive been looking around and ive came down to 2 differnt headphones not sure though what one to get one is Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO and the other is Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Professional Studio Monitor Headphones they both have really good really good reviews just not sure what one to get any suggestions?

The DT770s are considered the best headphones under around £150.
Get the 80/250Ohm version of those.

The M50s are good, but a bit too plasticy to me.

If you're spending that much, I'd expect a sturdier construction.

The DT770s are pretty much all lightweight metal, and so are incredibly comfortable, and very durable too.
