I'll Be Sensible - GTX 770?

Okay, so a while back I was asking if I should get a Titan, or maybe a GTX 780.

I settled on the GTX 780, but to be honest I've had a think about things. I don't think I should spend a lot of money since this rig is for one game only...BF4.

Seeing as I'm only planning on playing BF4, what would a GTX 770 perform like, IF I can't run the game maxed out at for the moment, 1920x1080, but everything ultra, 16x AA, 16x AF then sod it I want a GTX 780.

I'm just thinking of saving myself the money, I don't play games enough anymore to justify a £500+ GPU.

Looking to finish my rig of very soon now, so far we are on an Intel Core i5 4670K, and a Gigabyte G1.Sniper M5. Whack some RAM in, probably buy the Corsair Vengeance 8GB kit, and a PSU.

I don't think you could say for certain until the game comes out. I'm in the same position really, i want a card that will keep up with next gen stuff for a good few years, although i'm not in the market for a new card for a while yet (probably xmas time if i've got some spare cash). Not to mention the new AMD cards are apparently going to be released at around the same time as BF4, and that might affect your decision (or just prices) depending on how they stack up against the 7xx series.

The 780 does more than just run bf3 at full i am still getting 60-100 Fps with everything at full and running fraps recording at 60fps 1080p so i think a 770 will be fine. my boss at work has the 770 and is more than happy with it, running at 1080, giving fps above the 60 point. when bf 4 comes out does you HAVE to have the game maxed?

Tbh, with the current prices of the 600 series - I'd seriously consider 670 SLI.

The 770 should manage 60FPS - if BF4 is a lot more demanding than BF3 they'll be shooting themselves in the foot for all the people who want to play it, but will struggle with cards like a 6870.

I should of mentioned I COULD look at getting a second 770 later on, but I just want to get this rig finished without spending too much really.

I do want BF4 maxed out, to me that's what gaming PC's are for, I've always played everything maxed out until my last rig with a HD4870, it's the difference between a console and a PC to me. Otherwise I would just buy a next-gen console.

if your going to SLI later on id got for 770, but thats my opinion a single card is good SLI will be excellent, plus the scaling is getting better and better with SLI.

I've seen that everyone round here has nothing but good things to say about EVGA, so I will probably but one of theirs. They have two on OCUK, the normal edition and the classified, I think it's like £100 more though, and then I think well it's only £100 less than a 780!

Is the classified worth it?

its mainly the cooler, if you dont like the look of stock, and the fact its factory overclocked.
try scan for more EVGA stuff its were i got my 780 and i got it next day

Yeah if a second card was an option in the future and you wanted to get your build finished, a 770 would perfect i reckon. 770s in SLI would kill it for a good few years to come i would think, especially at 1080p.

I think that's me sorted then, 770, I don't mind adding a second card later on but I really want to get this rig finished weeks before BF4 so I can iron out any problems if any come up.

Just got a lot of other things that need to be paid for/bought now so I don't really want to spend £500 in one go just on a GPU.

My plan is to get whatever single card comes in at around that price range anyway, whether it be the 770 or whatever the new AMD cards happen to be. And i'll be sticking with that until i build a whole new rig most likely, which will be at least 3 years down the line.

Why don't you wait and see what price the new 9970 is if they release it in October it will kick ass for BF4 and since the game is optimised for AMD and this new card is to perform as good as if not better than a 780 for less money it could really be well worth the wait

What time frame do we think on AMD, will it be after BF4 is released?

I do like AMD, well back in the day of the HD4870, awesome card.

The talk is for an October 1st launch ready for BF4 and there is also talk that BF4 will be one of the never settle bundle to go with it.

Hey all,

Got a new question regarding the performance of this card. Would it be able to handle ArmA 3, ideally maxed out? I know from the past that the ArmA games are tough games to run, don't know whether it all comes down to hardware or the sometimes buginess/optimisation of the game.
