IDNET users connection problems

Hee hee... don't worry- there hasn't been a problem here since the first couple of days (router wasn't set up properly and they helped me with that) and since then I've had extremely good connection speeds- the slowest a download has gone is 30KBps (while him downstairs is downloading and we only have a 1mbps connection).

Well it's back to normal today. Doubt it was anything to do with idnet - more likely my local exchange.

Sent an email to idnet this morning and Simon rang me straight back - their customer service really is good, I think you'll find them a pleasant change Yorkie.

I should also point out that previously I was getting consistent max download speeds - the speed tests weren't any quicker than eclipse but downloads were. :)

Hi is anybody else having problems connecting to idnet after starting up pc? I often have to try 4 or 5 times to get my homepage displayed or very rarely restart the pc i ham using a speedtouch 510 router. I did have aol installed before idnet but im sure i have completley got rid off it as i cant find any traces off it in my regeistry.

saw this, today http://forums.hexus.net/showpost.php?p=684576&postcount=1

quite interesting about the AOL having control over certian aspects of your pc/hardware. Maybe its a pc problem.

download ccleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com and just let it do a registry scan see what it picks up.

maybe worth trying a pc that hasnt been infected with AOL if possible.

If this problem does persist then i would assume it is your pc and would be inclined to maybe back up and format.

somthing sounds fishy, my connections been fine.

Cheers.

Apart from the recent router issue (begining of this thread), my IDNet connection has enjoyed 100% uptime for the past 1½ years.

Hi thanks for that buddy tried it straight away even though i had allready done a registry clean with ashampoo witch i got free on a magazine ages ago that seemed to get a rid of a lot of aol rubbish from my system. But guess what downloaded cc cleaner and that a load more aol rubbish and other programs that ashampoo didnt pick up and this is freeware just goes to show freeware programs can show up there expensive cousins sometimes.

Sounds like you'll want to try tweaking your MTU and RWIN settings. http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/tweak2.htm This is pretty good and if you have any problems ask here.

Also I stuck a bridge between my modem and my router and found that my connection was acting up, not due to it, but due to pointless protocols that had been selected for the connection.

Ah heres something, AOL's mtu is 1400 wheras IDNets is IPStream standard and 1500 so check your MTU setting on your router.
