i950+ Rampage III gene in cube case.

Well I was planning my first water cooling system in ATSC 840 but very recently something clicked in my head and I decided for a bit of a crazy idea to go for fully capable m-atx build in tiny case. Now, I know with a couple of mods i can fit 240 rad to the front of the chasis i have chosen, I am not sure yet what would be the maximum thickness I can go for, obviously in this case every mm is important, therefore here is my question.

I wish to run i950 at let's say 4.0ghz how do you think, how thick 240 rad would handle that?

I read somewhere that Rampage III gene NB likes to run very hot. If I wanted to WC both CPU and MB would 240 rad handle that?

Thank you for any constructive comment. It is going to be a long run project, I am not in rush wit hit and will be working on it in my spare time. I might consider some work log but i cannot promise...lazy by nature:).

Best regards,

J.

Well it's Lian Li PC-v354. I will be removing hdd cages and either go for slim optical drive and modded cd cage or the external drive. I am quite confident i can fit 240 rad in the front and the reviews from other modders I found seem to be very promising, the case has quite good air flow.

Here's the link to the chasis: http://www.lian-li.com/v2/tw/product/upload/image/v354/flyer.html

If you run an SSD then your really golden. You could always run an external w/r drive.

I see no problem fitting a decent rad in there.

Chris I do have an ssd and am planning to do a custom cage for ssd+hdd. I will be modding my PSU as well to make sure the little extra space I have is not killed by tones of cables. I am getting the case tomorrow so will have more ideas what and where exactly I wanna do. Anyway... I know I can fit the 240 there quite easy but it was not my question. Since 240 is probably all I can have internally (and not planning any wc externally) I would like to get best i can off it. Is 240 enough for CPU+MB combo to get decent temps if yes, what sort of thickness are we looking for?

I don't have any practical experience with W.C. so I am looking for the opinion of experts...

I am really looking forward to start that project.

Bumping this thread with additional question.

How are the Sandy bridge processors temp wise?

Would it be easier to cool down SB cpu?

Would 240 slim rad, lets say sth like this:

be capable of cooling lets say 2500k at 4.5ghz + MB?

I might abandon the idea of X58 and go with SB, just replace motherboard with RoG gene when it comes out.

P.S. Case arrived, a bit dissapointing it's more pink than red
