Well dudes ive been playing with my new set up for 2 weeks now n fingers crossed i have finally got my i7 950 running at 4.2mhz all seems well so far ive run prime 95 for 45mins n no errors my set up is i7 950 on a r3e mb im using a h70 cpu cooler ram is corsair dominator gt 2000mhz although i cant seem to get it to run at 2000mhz the best so far is 1825mhz at 8-9-8-24 cr1 my bios settings go as follows

bclk 182x23

dram 1825

cpu voltage 1.30625

qpi core volts 1.35

dram bus volts 1.65625

ich voltage 1.11341

ioh voltage 1.15316

everything else set to auto ive disable all the intel stuff in cpu config there is one thing im not sure of n thats how high i can let the vcore voltage go??? i can just change the bclk on this board n it ajusts everything for you only prob is it sets the vcore n the qpi core to high at 1.45v for both i ajust them using the asus turbov evo back down to 1.30625 n 1.35 neet bit of kit that turbov evo no more in n out of the bios by the way my idle temps r 38 to 40c my ambient is about 25c n 68 to 71c under prime95 i have had it at 4.37mhz but ran hot 50+ idle didnt prime for obvious reasons any help or tips welcomed

bclk 182x23 aim for 200x20

dram 1825

cpu voltage 1.30625 sounds high

qpi core volts 1.35 needs to go up so you can get 2000mhz ram 1.4 to 1.5

dram bus volts 1.65625

ich voltage 1.11341 needs to go up

ioh voltage 1.15316

arite ttl, ive been trying to get up to 2000mhz ive tried 200x20 with 2005mhz and it just wont boot no beeps ive tried uping the qpi to 1.4 started at n went up to 1.5 ive also uped the ich to 1.2, 1.3 i have also dropped the cpu volts down to 1.28625 but went back to 1.30625 with out success as i have said im new to overclocking so am very unsure on voltages although i have done a lot ov reading i dont want to damage anything for obvious reasons the reason i want to overclock is i became ill last year n had alot ov time on my hands ive gone abit daft but hey the main reason is gaming in 3d my set up:-

coolermaster cosmos s

asus rampage iii extreme

i7 950 cpu

corsair h70 cpu cooler

corsair dominator gt cmt6gx3m3a2000c8 6gb with cooler

corsair tx850 psu

2x gtx460 gs glh sli

nvidia 3d kit

acer gd245hq

xfi fatality pro sound car

logitech z5500 5.1 surround sound

ocz vertex 2e 120gb ssd

1tb seagate 7200/12 32mb cache hdd

4x 120mm case fans 1x 200mm case fan

most people would say why go faster ??? well because it can be done n who doesnt want something thats better than what u pay for

well ttl i have managed to get my ram to run at 2000mhz i tried all sorts to get it to run at 2000mhz without sucsess till i stumbled on a guy with the same problem i followed the link n he had the exact same problems not able to boot at said 2000mhz not being able to load xmp profile opting for 180 bclk with 1800mhz spooky:) he had been adviced to update his bios i have also now updated my bios fromm 0901 to 1005 n as soon as i booted back to bios i loaded the xmp profile n booted windows no probs quick check with aida64 just to make sure lol n there 2000mhz @ 9-9-9-24-72-n2 im now running @ 4.2ghz n 2005mhz ram not done any testing yet but everything seem ok so far temps at idle 32c ill post back with some pics n hopfully some results:P

hi dudes back again been making sure everythings ok before i post got my set up running nicley @ 4.2ghz with 2005mhz ram ive had it running 24/7 for the last 2 days now testing gaming n general pc use temps at idle have been constant at 33c under full load im hitting 74c prime 95 , aida stability test it runs at between 52c to 56c im very impress as i have very limited knowledge of overclocking i put it down to the asus rampage iii extreme its one hell off a bit of kit ive manage these speeds by setting my bios as follows

ai overclock tuner [manual]

cpu ratio setting [21]

bclk [200]

pcie frequency [100]

dram frequency [2005]

uclk [4009]

qpi link data rate [7218mt/s]

dram timings set manually to 8-9-8-24 n1 ive disabled cie support, a20m, intel speed step, intel c-state tech n i leave everything else on auto for now untill i boot into windows. ithe go into turbov evo and tune the voltages from there i have had the vcore at 1.275 with 1.35 qpi but its not stable under load its ok in gaming n general use but not under prime 95 bsod so ive up my voltages to vcore 1.325 n qpi/dram 1.375 dram bus voltage is 1.65625 cpu pll 1.81525 ich auto ioh 1.6641 n its been fantastic ive had higher idle temps at lower voltages ie 41c which i cant understand but hey what the heck im stable n more than happy heres some pics http://img843.imageshack.us/slideshow/player.php?id=img843/3974/1288985807v43.smil

If its not stable under load you need more QPI dude
wink.gif
1.5 to 1.55v

ioh 1.6641 - thats way too high though

arite ttl my mistake i dont know where i got 1.6641 for ioh from thats also set at auto when u say give the qpi 1.5 1.55v is that at 1.275v for the vcore ? tbh im quite happy as it is, unless it can improve even more? when ive tried to keep the vcore @ 1.2 n up to 1.3 with qpi @ 1.35 to 1.4 i just get bsod as it is with 1.325 vcore n 1.475 qpi all seems fine although i havnt really left prime running for a sustained period ie 8hrs n more do i need to run prime 95 for a long period to know im 100% stable or is aida64 stability test ok? the temps r alot lower just unsure dont want to damage my baby lol:P ive had no problems at all while playing games in 3d just started playing james bond blood diomond n that playes fantastic any tips always appreciated n1

Up the QPI volts matey, I cant give you all the answers as Im not there with you testing, but for 2000mem at 200bclk you will need the uclk set to 4000 and the qpi at 15 - 1.55v.

cheers dude i'll give it ago over the weekend the uclk is set at 4000 dont want to mither you ttl as i know u a busy man but u cant beat just sitting and watching someone who knows his stuff as i now you will go through the ins n outs when you do your video for this processor n when u do it will u be using the r3e? n1 ttl:)

well dudes im back with some results ive been testing my i7 950 to see what stable clocks i can acheive im very pleased with my results. im running my i7 950 @ 4.2ghz with 2000mhz ram i have acheived this by nothing more than trial n error obviusly ive done alot of reading n had a few pointers from ttl n1 ttl my settings are as follows:-

ai tuner [ manual]

cpu ratio [ 21 ]

bclk [ 200 ]

dram [ 2005 ]

uclk [ 4009 ]

qpi ldr [ 7218 ]

dram timings 8-9-8-24-1n my vcore set @ 1.3v qpi/dram v @1.375v and ive set ioh @1.24591v everything else is set on auto ive disabled the intel power saving stuff cie support, a20m, intel c state, n not forgeting intel speed step tech ive just finished running prime 95 for an hour temps where very constant throughout the test started @ 53c core1,2,3,4 @ 61/61/57/56 temps slowly dropped to 50c over the hour cores1,2,3,4 leveled out @ 60/60/56/55 the north bridge temp 43c south bridge temp 41c heres a screen shoot taken @ 1hr 5 mins and a shot of the idle temps after 2 mins of prime 95:)

i was wondering if there are any of the other settings in the bios that i could tweak to further improve my overclock ie cpu clock skew, ioh clock skew, cpu differential amplitude or any of the settings in extreme engine digi+ ive not touched any of these settings they are just left on auto maybe to help reduce my vcore voltages n even help in upping the bclk or is it best just to leave these alone i have no particular reason other than just to see what is possible once again thanks for help n any more tips would be much appreciated n1 all @ oc3d

Id be happy where it is, there is no quick way of learning anything else tbh dude.

Awesome to hear you are happy and at a decent overclock
biggrin.gif

cheers TTL, tbh im more than happy with my overclock my system is lightning quick i think now i'll do some bench marking to see where i stand in the world of overclocking. there is one thread on this site that made me lmao the guy with the h50 in the bucket of ice lol well it got me thinking n i thought what if i was to hook up a better fan to my h70 would it keep my cpu any cooler so i proceded to make a connection from a sqaure fan to a round fan this is when i had my apollo 13 moment:lol: bit of cardboard n some aluminium tape should do the job i hooked it all up to my 5inch inline fan conected some ducting n stuck the ducting outside WOW my idle temp @ 4.2 vcore 1.275 have dropped to 14, 15c from 28, 30c under prime max heat just hitting 50c my ambiant temp are a toasty 28c got heating on i just had a play n managed to get 4.75ghz @ 1.4v idle temps stayed @ 18c not tried to prime or anything just curious gone back to 4.2ghz heres a few pics for you to av a laugh at
laugh.gif

i think if corsair could improve on the fans for the h70 n h50 they would be very compatertive coolers as it is they are beaten all hands down by an air cooler of course i mean the nochtua im considering incorporating this 5in inline fan into my system once i suss out a way of mounting it inside my tower i think it will knock spots of anything else out there even a match for the best water cooling me thinks
laugh.gif
alot cheaper than water too hey n by the way its not that loud either lmao
laugh.gif
n1 ttl hope this makes you giggle
