ok so today i swapped my cpu cooler to the cooler master hyper 212 and decided i would try my hand at overclocking i didnt need a massive overclock so i put it to 4.6ghz at 1.2v and im not sure if this is good or not, i ran prime 95 and it didnt blue screen and seems stable always a good start and the cpu didnt go over 70 degrees. So i just wanted to get some opinions off the nice folk on this forum.

4.6ghz at 1.2V is not bad. I'm also tweaking my new 4790k. I have managed 4.8ghz on 1.28V which I will try to get lower when I have time to play around with it. It's stable but I dont like the high voltage im using. The Temp seems a little high though to me. I could be wrong however since I'm new to this CPU too.

i have noticed that even the idle temp is a little higher for me comparing to my 3570k. But that could be architecture etc. I think I may be onto a winner here though as its overclocking so easy compared to my last cpu. I could only manage 4.4ghz on 1.24V with that one which was terrible.

4.6@1.2v isnt bad, 4790k can be pushed to 5ghz if you're lucky but I wouldn't go beyond 4.6 with just hyper212 as it will get hotter with more voltage that you will need to get .1ghz more.

run p95 for few hours and then occt for another few, if its all stable and no errors then you should be fine

Hi! sorry for the little hijack,

just got the 4790k myself, i can get 4.7 @ 1.150V which seems very low! but for some reasons heats up to 85c with a H60 push/pull.

Also at stock will do 4.2 max when stressed, is it normal or just me guys?

I will be generous and answer up this once.... 4.2 when stressed is not normal, and means it thermal throttling for some reason.
