Hey guys,

So i am buying a new i7 920 and i am very happy about it ofc.

Now i told my friends about my new purchase and all of my friends bought a new cooler. (the ones that also have an i7 proc)

so i am wondering is the standard cooler that comes with the i7 920 good enough or do i need to buy a better one.

I do play games!.

-thanks-:D

The stock cooler is 'adaquate' but its far from brilliant. Im assuming your cpu is at stock speeds and not overclocked?

If it is stock and you plan on leaving it at stock then check out this review I wrote

The cooler is much better than your stock cooler but the icing on the case is its practically silent :D

The problem is that i need all the money i have to spend on a nice video card.

So do u think i will have any problems with the standard cooling? (cpu not overlocked)

Once you have a toasty GPU adding heat to the case mate its not the best idea. Keeping the components cool is the key to a long life.

Electronic circuitry operates best and most reliably at lower temperatures. However, today’s more complex and smaller device dimensions along with closer packing result in higher heat density and elevated operating temperatures. That saves us from the worries of heat effects on the electronics and their performance.

You can get away with a standard cooler, but the extra cash will prolong life, make life quieter and will mean that when you do OC it, (which is a must because the 920s clock so well) you can do so easily.

If you don't want to fork out much for the superior Noctua's out there, go for something like an Akasa Nero S or Titan Fenrir. They may not be AS cool or AS quiet as the better Noctua's but they still provide great cooling for the cash (~£30) and will be much much better than the stock cooler. They'll also give you some headroom if you find yourself wanting/needing to overclock in the future.

I've heard very good things about the Akaska Nero, supposed to be very quiet and only a couple of degrees warmer than the Noctua, which is probably overkill for you at the mo.
