hi i have now built my new rig, details in sig, however it is my 1st quad and my first intel, i have increased the multiplier to 38 giving me almost 3.8ghz
running prime im getting 50c on all cores, is this expected with this chip and cooler?
i have only changed the multiplier in bios, do i need to do anything with voltage? in auto mode its giving it 1.3561v@3791 and is stable, do i only need to tweak anything if i decide to go for a more extreme o'c?
Using the auto overclock feature will always use more volts than is needed, you should be able to do 4.5ghz on 1.35v maybe lower if you have a good CPU.
You don't need to change anything else tbh the multiplier and volts is all you need to change, you can disable speedstep and turbo boost if you want though. Doing that will give you a constant overclock, with speedstep on it will only overclock when you are doing something that stresses the CPU and when you are not doing anything that stresses the CPU it will down clock.
You can also set the Load Line Calibration (LLC) higher but I wouldn't bother doing that unless you can't get a stable overclock.
