I wanna buy a new processor and motherboard

i say i5 2500k

a gigabyte ud4 (all ud5 has over the ud4 is more power phases, but the ud4 has more then enough)

4GB of highspeed ram maybe those kingston 2133s that were just reviewed

and some SLI action!

a nice case like a nzxt phantom or HAF 932 or even a 690 ii adv if you want something good but affordable

an nh-d14!!!!!!

asus has a nice 23" monitor led 1920x1080 for only about 190

corsair psu 850w+ (does amazon deliver to CA? cause i got that 1000w mushkin joule that tom did a review on for only 85 (what a steal!!!)

samsung spinpoint f3 and/or an ssd

^room for editing cause im not even sure how much all of this would cost

why sandy bridge get a real intel system that you can oc like oc'n supposed to be. (multi upping isnt real OC (IMHO) )

ok its over 1600cad and I forgot a DH-14 lol but spend some time looking at ur options and determining what use it'll get before slapping down 1600 for anything.

But with his budget, intel is the faster therefore better option. Going amd would be, imo, a waste of money when something faster is available.

True, it certainly is for the time being (unless he wants to wait for bulldozer and get an AM3+ ready mobo), but he may want to spend most of his budget on graphics array, or on a watercooling, or on hard drives, or an even balance, depends which direction of component the money is going what end up getting

True, in which case we should wait for him to reply to what we've said before we say much more..

dont see the point, sandy bridge > anything when it comes to gaming, id rather something easy to OC to 4.5GHz+ instead of something he has to fiddle with to get it just right

it is strictly for gaming anyways

well if I had a similar budget I'd go 1366 as imo its better than sandy to my eyes. To me something that has already had one setback just weeks to a month from release. Isnt all that yet. Who knows maybe there'll be another setback prolly not but its on my mind. I may be 100% off mark here but just because its easy to oc doesnt mean its better. I havent seen any thing that has proven to me its far superior to 1366 yet. If it were me and 1600 was the top of the budget and I needed everything I'd go AMD and make the best AMD system I could.

But in the end we all have our opinions of whats the best Thats what alot of our posters want our opinions and such. All we can do is provide that without bashing others opinions. Not saying anyone has done said bashings lol. Just keep in mind that everyone has opinions and thats what makes us...... well individuals

I came across as a bit snobby, i didn't mean to at all

I just think that with his budget i5 or i7 is the way to go especially when it comes to gaming. But then i will be slightly biased i'm about the bomb £1200 on a sandybridge system

i7 2600K is the way to go imo. I consider that CPU as a "bang for the buck". I'd love to have one myself with a GA-P67-UD7 board.

for gaming the 2500k is the best bang for buck it performs exactly the same as the 2600k (again, in gaming) and cost 100 bucks less

2600k is more for heavily threaded programs

i do like the ud7 though

Hey

If you don't want to wait for amd bulldozer than this what I think would be best for you.

MSI 890FXA-GD70/AMD Phenom II X6 1100T = 449.99

XFX Radeon HD 6970 2GB GDDR5 = 344.99

Kingston HyperX 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9 = 104.99

Corsair Professional Series Gold AX850 = 199.99

Seagate Barracuda XT 7200.12 2TB SATA 6.0GB/S = 199.99

Kingston SSDNow V100 Series 64GB 2.5IN SSD = 129.30

Antec Dark Fleet DF-85 = 155.12

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Total = 1584.37

If you want to go less a Little bit you can replace the Graphics card, Memory & Power supply with those:

XFX Radeon HD 6950 2GB GDDR5 = 310.14

Corsair 1600 Vengeance 4GB 1X4GB = 56.47

Corsair TX850 V2 850W = 119.99

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Total = 1421

Go for the intel core i5-2500k and a GTX-570 or even a GTX-580 if that fits in your price bracket. That's the best choice I can think of for your budget...
