I need a new GFX-card! Which one?

Okay, so I've not updated myself in the newest graphic-card advancements in the last two months or so, so I'm completely out of the game. :P

One of my GF8800GTS-cards (g92) crapped out on me, so I sent it in and got my RMA approved, so I've got £150 off on a new card. I still have one of those cards left, currently in my rig, but I will be putting it in my gf's rig when I buy a new one.

Now, I was of course drooling over the 4870x2-card, but I really don't see the point in spending that much money on the latest tech when I don't play as many games now as I did half a year ago (that's probably until FC2 and COD5 releases). What would you guys recommend? Also, I don't believe I will be going down the path of SLi anymore.

JSYK, the 4850x2 should be coming out sometime in September, fits exactly what your looking for. It should cost around £200 (~$400)

Some other details;

- It costs considerably less than the 4870x2

- Still outperforms the GTX280, for less money

Personally I would stay from dual GPU configs be it on a single card or dual cards unless you're going to be gaming on a 30' monitor.

Why not go for either the GTX 260 or the HD4870?

Either one of those would be my choice.

I assume u have a 52" 1080p lcd? so thats 1920x1080 res (about same as a 24" monitor) but a 30" monitor is normally 2560x1600 = needs more gfx power :p

I agree with zoot, go for a single gpu solution,i'd get a 4870 myself :)

Bigger the screen, the more gfx-memory I want tbh.

260/4870/280 - all great cards, whatever suits ur budget tbh.

If it's going to be a keeper get the 4870X2, if you like to upgrade just get a 260/4870.

Also GT212 is coming which is rumoured to be a die shrink and tweak like the g80 to g92. Doubt it will beat the X2 though, unless they GX2 it...
