Hz gaming

Only that having it at 120Hz is running it cooler than running it at 144Hz though.

It's a monitor, not a CPU mate. If the box says 144Hz you are better off leaving it at that. That way you know you are using the monitor as intended. No need to go under clocking a monitor ;)

I meant that my GPU is running cooler if it's running at 120Hz rather than 144Hz, I'm tired so missed writing that out lol, sorry.

What? Your GPU runs cooler when the monitor is running at a lower refresh rate? Doesn't make sense to me, but I could be missing something...
 
Are you actually running the GPU in full performance mode all the time? Because thats the only way I could really see it affecting temperatures/gpu heat.
 
isnt it just that Vsync is limiting the frames? So the GPU doesnt just push out as much as it can without limit?
 
Normal apps only redraw when something changes, unlike games which render every frame. So that is a bit odd.

Had around 35-45C in idle on my reference 980Ti on 60Hz, then went up to 65C while on 144Hz. Went down to 45C when I did a custom fan profile through MSI Afterburner.

No idea mate, not sure how to set that nor look to check. As relatively new to Nvidia and haven't really gotten all that into it yet.

The temperatures seem fine to me. By 'high' I was expecting 70-80c. Its probably just wonky drivers putting the card in 3D mode by the sounds of things. What are the GPU clocks like when its running in 144hz?

Don't remember that unfortunately, now I have the Gigabyte 980Ti G1 Gaming and it's about the same lol. Not 65C though but around 35-55C which is a bit odd.

What are the clocks then? As in what does GPUz/some other program say the gpu clocks are when you're on 144hz mode.

Will check that when I get back home tonight and get back to you... But the default clocks of the G1 Gaming is ok though and my temps?. As IF I am running those clock speeds I mean.

You're doing what I said so that we can work out if the card is going into performance mode (aka running at the full clocks, not 300mhz or whatever). If it is that would explain the temperature (which is fine). Even if its idling at that for whatever reason, it doesn't matter.

Okay... I just opened up TechPowerUp GPU-Z 0.8.4 and it says GPU Core Clock 925.5 MHz, a constant and steady one.
