HTPC Woes

Can someone check my logic here please and see if you agree with my diagnosis.

Just built a new HTPC. Athlon X2, ASUS M2NVM-DH AM2 MOBO. The motherboard has a DSub connector and a DVI.

I built the PC using a spare CRT and it seems to work fine - just a basic build so far. XP SP2 base

Connect the PC to the AV Amp via a DVI to HDMI cable. Its no longer connected to the CRT via the DSub. And I am trying to avoid carrying the CRT around (yes I am lazy)

PC boots and downloads patches but does not show a display on the TV. Nothing, NADA, Zip, Squat etc

My diagnosis is that the PC is still trying to use the DSub and does not realise there is anything attached to the DVI that it can use. What worries me is what happens in a few days time when I boot the computer with the AV Amp on another channel it will probably switch back (maybe) to the DSub which will be kind of a nuisance as I have no intention of having another screen on the PC...

Possible Solutions

Short Term: Move the CRT around and check my diagnosis

Long Term: Use another graphics card, instead of the built in one(s) so that the primary display can only be the single display. Card should be an Nvidia 8500 I guess with 2 * DVI connectors and no DSub

im a tad drunk already, so excuse if i sound stupid.

Is there a way you can temp move the crt to the av amp. Turn the card to output to both outputs (any res, just so you get an output). Now alter the display settings to use the AV amp as the primary display.

Nope - the crt is dsub only

:-(

I picked up the damn CRT and got a picture on it and the Plasma - so I guess I am right. Just need to buy a card instead

Dammit
