How to Manually set up your RAM Speed, Timings and Voltage

Brilliant guide for beginners. Will definitely refer friends and family to this if/when they eventually want to try their hands at basic overclocking.

Excellent focus on memory, thanks OC3D for the time and effort here this is invaluable information.

Anyone know the bios settings for 4 4gb vengeance 1866mhz ram on a gigabyte z97x gaming 7 with an i5 3.5ghz processor. I am having trouble getting it to start up in anything other than 1033mhz

Its written on the side of you ram sticks and in this guide dude.

Are you pressing F10 to save your bios settings when you exit?

Help with BIOS Settings!

I am attempting to adjust my BIOS settings to adjust the RAM speed for new sticks I have installed, but my BIOS seems very basic and doesn't allow me much customization. I read the article on this website that shows how to manually change RAM's speed, timing, and voltage, but my BIOS does not allow for it. Please help!!

I have a Samsung SF510 laptop and I am attempting to upgrade to 8gb of RAM. The compatible RAM for my machine is: http://www.crucial.com/ProductDispl...anId=3C225C8D31D926C3&langId=-1&storeId=10151

I bought these, thinking they'll work because they have the same specs: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CV5GWHC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

But when I installed one new stick with an existing (2 gb) stick, I get the BSOD with Win7 with this error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Thanks again for any help!

Laptops are very specific dude - you should probably just run matching sticks so try removing the original 2gb one, also 99% of laptops wont let you change ram speed.

I need help. I bought Vengeance® Pro Series — 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 DRAM 2133MHz C11 Memory Kit (CMY8GX3M2A2133C11)http://www.corsair.com/en-us/vengeance-pro-series-8gb-2-x-4gb-ddr3-dram-2133mhz-c11-memory-kit-cmy8gx3m2a2133c11. My MOBO is GA-F2A88XM-HD3 http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4727#sp. I tried to enable AMP since I am using an AMD platform. However, it didn't set the speed to 2133 MHz so I did it manually including the timings of course. The problem is that it's not stable. Whenever I try to run Prime95 test on it, it comes up with an error message that says something like "FATAL error: Hardware problem detected..." Games would randomly stop as well and I got 2 different BSODs

Those stick's dont support AMP you need AMD ram sticks or some patriot stick's support it (patriot actualy makes AMD's ram sticks)
AMD chips can be picky with ram try running @ a lower speed with tighter times.

Oh and stop useing prime 95 its out of date and pull's way to much power with AMD chips use occt http://www.ocbase.com/

I need help with something. I followed the instructions and set the overclocking right. But the DRAM Frequency won't let me run on anything higher than 1333Mhz. Whenever i try to crank it up to 1886 (which is the speed of my RAM sticks) the CPU overheats.
Could this be my MOBO not being compatible with 1886Mhz?

My MOBO: ASUS P8H61-M LE
My RAM: G.SKILL F3-1866C9D-8GAB Ares Series 8GB

Please don't post multiple times in a row

If not, what else could be the problem?

It doesnt overheat my bad. But the entire computer wont start up and i get stuck at a black screen where it says "overclocking failed, press F1 for setup" and that takes me back to the bios. After giving that a few tries, thats when it overheats.

Did you also set the timings? If not then that's probably why it fails to boot. Set the correct timings and speed and it should work. However even if setting that does not work, the board is rated to only support as high as 1333mhz. You at most will probably only get to 1600mhz and have to manually enter timings till it finally boots. If that doesn't work, i'd say go down to 1333 and then manually set the timings at a low setting to get the most out of the memory.

I don't think your motherboard can run 1866MHz memory this is from the ASUS website

2 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 1333/1066 Hz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel Memory Architecture
* The maximum 16GB memory capacity can be supported with 8GB or above DIMMs. ASUS will update the memory QVL once the DIMMs are available in the market.
* Refer to www.asus.com or user manual for the Memory QVL (Qualified Vendors Lists).
* Due to OS limitation, when installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, Windows® 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Install a 64-bit Windows® OS when you want to install 4GB or more memory on the motherboard.

I have the same sorta of issue with my ASrock B75 motherboard even tho ASRock does state on there website that my motherboard should work with 1600MHz memory.

Thank for all the answers. I feared my motherboard wouldn't support more than 1333Mhz. My computer works fine with more RAM now!...But will i notice an improvement if i try change the frequency up from 1333Mhz to 1600Mhz? Even if my motherboard doesnt support it?
Because i've found that my two RAM outlets can take up to a maximum of 800Mhz each

Is It dangerous to set up manually your RAM speed, timings and voltage?

I really have one question on this article...
I have one "G.Skill Aegis 8GB ( 1X8GB ) DDR4 3000MHz"
An msi mobo gaming pro b350m
And an R3 2200G 3.5GHZ
And I want to speed my rams frequency to 3000mhz
If I follow your steps...Is there something that can goes wrong??!
I mean Is it dangerous to pick the exact numbers that are written on my ram(timings, voltage and mhz) and put them in the forms?
Can someone please answer?!
