How do I overclock my 580 GTX Lightning

They were exactly the same since I never closed the application in between !

I am willing to redo the results tommorow if you want ?

ok

i don't, thanks. 68MHz isn't gona do that to your result. Maby 1st run it loaded everything so the rest ran alot better, Voltage OC may have tweeked smooth performance. At a normal prepared standard the 68MHz doesn't.

@Jerome, that's what I also thought, however D44 didn't just O/C the core, he (I'm assuming) also O/C the memory and the shaders and as you said background programs etc...

But yeah it looks a bit weird, with the substantial performance boost.

ye.

what i think about memory OC'ing isn't as sinple as i wrote on page 2 and I have had better performance OC'ing memory when it wasn't full. Adequately its speed should suit the other component and I don't know about the extra component speeds, it is very complex. A general rule is wanted, anyone?

Hunk in response to the e-mail I just got from you I've gone into settings in Afterburner and set a custom fan profile for all my overclocks that shouldn't let the card pass 70 degrees celsius and doesn't let the fans spin lower than 40% (the default). I suggest you do the same and find an overclock that then isn't too loud for your liking. My card will run at 960 but it's loud, so in games I usually run it at 900 or stock on older games that will never need an overclock.

I don't have the time to do some new benchmarks today but I have a screenshot of the previous results.

Heaven is able to save a html file of the results.

It's most effective to use a set fan speed so the cooler prevents heat build up from the start. This will allow you have a lower fan speed with similar results as using alternating fan speed

alien result from that bench!

I just redid the test at stock and it turns out you were both right.

The new results are min 15.6 avg 31.4 max 77.4 I guess it was too good to be true haha.

I checked my history of virus scans, it wasn't running at the time so it must have been something else.

I don't think the 2 fps increase I got justifies a overclock, now I'm going to have to push it some more !

Nvidia Control Pannel has helpful stuff like Tripple Buffering, V Sync, AA Transparancy, AA Gamma correction .. etc.

AA Transparancy makes a much sharper image. Some programmes use it more or less effeciently with its demang on the GPU. Frostbite BFBC2 is the worst I've found having to raise core voltage to get stability that's with SLI, or it randomly does microstuttering things. CoD it's perfect, Crysis, Crysis 2, DoW 2 and I think every other game

I have got good results in Crysis using a lower AA setting in-game, like x4 or x8 or x8Q and putting AA Transparacncy to x4 or x8 giving a nicer image and better performance compared to AA X16Q without AA Transparancy maby AA Gamma Correction too. That is before Crysis' recent awesome update. I haven't experimented to memory.

To see Heaven 2 in V Sync beauty enable Tripple Buffering

Hardware loves it

Could you please give me your settings when you run it @ 960.

Especially the core voltage.

Thanks!

+150, +50, +20. I can't guarantee stability as I've done a reinstall of Windows in the last couple of days and didn't note down the voltages, but that's what I'm running it at until I can test otherwise.

Do you guys get a huge performance increase when you oc your gpu?

I tried with the Resident evil 5 benchmark

@ stock settings: 96,1 fps

overclocked @ 940/1180/2100: 101,7 fps

Alright, guys, I managed to run the 580 stable @ 960(core clock) 1920 (shader clock) 2250 (memory clock)

I noticed a slight increase in performance during the resident evil 5 bench. About 102 fps instead of 98-99.

What is the maximum temperature I should never go over?
