I have had this problem for a few months now, every now and then aero stops and I cannot find the cause. Is there a way to know for certain wich piece of software shuts down aero?
you could try this:
Search for troubleshooting in start menu select that, then choose 'Display Aero desktop effects' under Appearance and Personalization. And see if it returns anything useful.
