Hot hard drive

I've got an old WD 160Gb hard drive and it idles at 60°C and I've got another one just like it that idles around 27°C.

They're both in a CM 690 II advanced

I even took the hot one out and put in the hard drive dock in top of the case and I still get the same results.

Any suggestions? thanks

Reinstall your readout app, might be a misread.

Startech do 5.25" bay covers with a couple little fans on but I doubt they make any difference.

Sounds like something is getting more juice than it should be

used HWMonitor on both XP and Vista got the same results

I did it two different ways I had it plugged directly the power supply and then I used the hard drive dock at the top of the case and got the same results i will re-download hardware monitor

and try again

thanks for the reply

Downloaded and tried speccy still getting same the results around 55°C

I touched both hard drives both of them felt the same

could it be a temperature sensor going out?

Not 100% sure, but it looks to be the case.

I don't think it is the case there are five other hard drives in there they all stay in the 30°C range

it's just that one hard drive that's hot

the 140 mm fan in the front of the 690 II is blowing on the hard drives and another 120 mm fan is on the other side of the hard drive cage pulling away air

back up whatever you need from it and ride her til she dies if its on the way out you'll know soon enough otherwise like ya said its prolly a defective temp monitor on the hdd itself.

at this point I think you're right the hard drive has been acting a little weird besides the heat

I will keep it running if she dies she dies

thanks for the help everybody
