Hosting on Dynamic IP

Right, a mate of mine knows I run servers for certain things but mainly for the family and close friends.

What he is asking me to do is host a website which at this point he already has domain names setup.

Is there a easy way to set up a website on a server which can have the IP changing.

I don't mind if I have to relay to other servers as long as it is secure.

Jim, this may be one for you. ;)

Thanks guys!

See, I have seen a few of these kinda sites around but do they allow me to use my own domain for free?

And about the DNS do you mean I should set up one of the servers as a DNS?

Can I bump this?

I have the domains in hand at the moment and now need a free service to update my IP to everytime it changes.

No-IP would work but I am not paying that amount of money. :(

There are a few free services out there that support dynamic IP updates. Give dnspark.net or zoneedit.com a try maybe. Many services will support dynamic updates but will need you to find a software client that supports their service. This then needs to be installed on the server so that it can detect changes in your IP and update your records. Some routers even support dynamic dns updating.

Right, I am now using DNSexit to relay to me.

I have updated my current IP onto their servers. What i need to do now is set up how the website see everything.

Basically, when I put the address in the address bar it comes to a blank page. It should come to my test page displaying in text "UNDER CONSTRUCTION".

When I trace the site it gets stuck at ukservers. ukservers are the guys the domain has been bought from. I am looking at the domain records now thinking where I should point them. Obviously, they cannot go to me straight away. They need to go to DNSexit.

Whats the plan?

Thanks
