This has been my summer project, just finished up this past weekend. Feels absolutely great to be finished! Now I can finally get going on some other projects that I've had on hold for months. I understand this is a little different than the normal project here. Just think of this as my custom PC case.
Here are some before shots from when we first bought this house 4 years ago. This is our first home, we bought it only a few weeks after getting married. It's modest for sure and needed some work, but we love the location. Fortunately, I really like home remodeling and have some experience in it and a brother who likes this kind of work as well.
Here's the pile of siding from the first shipment. From the start of the project to the end, I probably made 100 trips to the hardware store.
For this project, I had to remove the current siding (masonite) and put OSB up over the blackboard sheeting. I then put up Tyvek and vinyl siding. I also finished the rest of the windows on both the house and garage and put up aluminum fascia and soffit. The garage also got a new side and garage door. I put a new roof on the house 2 years ago and a new roof on the garage last fall.
Before starting this project, I had already remodeled a few rooms and replaced some windows. You can see from this pic the temporary siding I had to put in after putting in the windows. It looked like this in a few spots on the house. I had to keep telling myself it was only temporary as it looked so damn bad.
Removal of the stone planters:
Took down some shrubs:
One thing everyone learns when they buy an old house; the previous owners are idiots. They didn't properly do these front windows so I ended up ripping them out and redoing them. There was extensive water damage and the framing was all wrong. They didn't even put sheeting up. It was a cover up job for sure.
Here's the in-laws giving a helping hand.
All framed in properly and with sheeting on...go figure.
Some shots of the back of the house:
Shot of the finished garage in the backyard.
New porch lights
Front of the house finished
Closeup
The wife and I are very pleased on how everything turned out. Planned projects in the future include an addition, landscaping, and a new deck. Saving this for next year of course.
