I'm about to watch a movie when I smell that smell... you know, burnt wires, or like your PSU just took a nose dive.

:flames:

So I start looking around my pc, the monitors, nothin... all of a sudden I don't smell a thing. Then I grab the DVD and theres that smell again. :eh: I take the DVD and smell it... sure enough it smells like a burnt component! No joke, it smells like a PSU thats been fried, totally weird...:fish:

It's not uncommon...

When I take a DVD/CD out from my PC/PS2(R.I.P.)/DVD player they all smell burnt a bit.

One of my biggest criticisms of the newer HP dc7700 we get at work is that they have this smell from new. Without even being turned on. U open the case and u have that very burnt pcb smell.

On the optical side of things in general, not many people allow for the heat these things can generate, more so if they have a disc in them. Add to that that they`re usually housed ontop of barely adequately cooled hard drives and it`s not hard to consider the possible failiure rate of the opticals. Coupled with a case with no venting at the top... argghh!

And to think a laser is being used as well. Wierd though, ive never smelt a disk before i dont think. Smells like plastic to me.

Actually, I just opened the DVD case, never played the disc before... never had a disc that smelled that way.:arsey:
