I just started folding for the team and i downloaded the client etc etc but in my FAH control my gpu it says Pause:waiting of idle is there any way to get it to help with the folding ? thanks and sorry for the noob question .

What GPU have you got and where is the folding power slider set to?

When the slider is set to medium it will wait for the machine to idle/screen off before it starts folding on the GPU. If you want it to always fold on the GPU set it to Full

You will also want to make sure you have a spare core on the CPU for the GPU to use.. i.e

CPU should be set to -1 by default in the configure / slots tab which means the client will use any available cores for SMP folding, so for example if you have a quad core you can set it to 3 so that 1 core is free for the GPU to utilise.

But as above to use the GPU you have to set the folding client to full otherwise it will wait until the system is in sleep mode before engaging GPU folding.

Thanks of all the support guys ,Is there any good old processors that do folding well ? Does ram have a big impacted on your ppd ?

Personally i wouldn't fold on any cpu unless you get electricity for free? as the ppd for most cpu's just isn't worth the effort anymore.

Yep defo, given the right card you can see some crazy ppd but that doesn't come cheap.

The only reason why i ask because i have 4 GTX 580 in the roof space doing nothing just need a cpu and motherboard are they any good ? and 2 480 i think as well

4x580's will bring in some really nice ppd (suck alot of power from the wall as well :lol

If it was me i wouldn't bother with the 480's BUT If electricity is free then get the lot folding

Looking around and i think a single 580 on core17 gets anything from 40k upwards per day

Another option is...You could sell the 4x580 & 480's and buy a single GTX 780 / Ti or R9 290 etc

Sounds like you've got a core15 wu so yes very normal, core17 is where the ppd is BUT even playing around with the advanced & beta flags still won't guarantee a core17 wu...it just depends how the server is feeling :lol:
