Hi everyone, I'm new to custom PC building let alone overclocking so I appreciate any advice.
A few years ago I bought what I thought was a pretty decent laptop (HP zd3733ea) but after only 14 months it broke. I believe the graphics card went belly up (due to overly demanding gaming) and as it wasn't cost effective to repair I was forced to accept my loss.
In the last couple of months I've been looking into building a PC as it offers much more security (in terms of part replacement and upgradability) and I wanted to learn more about the technical side of computing.
During my 'research' I came across an article in Custom PC by a guy called Tom Logan. In it he thanks this site, and in particular, James Napier for helping him along the custom PC path. I hope I can gain the same experience as Tom as I would like to reach the stage of owning a personally built PC.
I am looking for suggestions for parts to build a basic/cheap gaming PC that I can try some experimental overclocking with. Tom stated that an Asus P5K Premium motherboard and an Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 with G0 stepping are a good start. I want one fairly decent graphics card (I'm not ready for Crossfire or SLI yet) and around 100GB HD.
Can anyone direct me to a thread on this forum where I might be able to get some advice on this?
