Just thought I'd drop in to say Hi...
Hi ^_^
I've been into computers on and off for the last roughly 10 years, though I've never gotten in to overclocking, watercooling or case modding before - I used to just enjoy keeping up with latest hardware and watching the blistering pace that it's all moving forward at. I've recently discovered TTL's youtube channel (I'm not much for youtube generally
) and have spent many an hour over the last few weeks watching his newer and older reviews. It's from there that I've come to this forum.
I was considering water cooling my system even though it is getting dated at just over 2 years old, just to get a feel for water cooling on a system I wouldn't be shattered about losing if I royally stuffed up but in the end I figured it just wasn't worth the money being spent on it when I could save it for an upgraded system and put water on that
Here are my specs (these will be changing very soon now, more on that below):
CPU: :amd: Phenom II x6 Black Edition 1100T 3.3 GHz
MB: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
RAM: 8GB Patriot DDR3 1333 MHz
GFX: Inno3D GeForce GTX580 1536MB reference
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower XT 875W 80+ Bronze
HDD: 500GB & 2TB mechanical SATA II's (think they're both 7200 RPM. Haven't seen them in 2yrs, can't remember brand, etc
)
As you can see it's all run at stock. Sadly it even had the stock air cooler on it. I was about to change that however it's just not happening now.
I'm a self-confessed AMD (CPU) and nVidia fanboy. Every one of my main rigs has been AMD CPU with nVidia graphics from my first PC - AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz & ASUS GeForce 3 which from my dodgy memory was 64mb GRAM and was also pre-TI models - and up until this current rig. Unfortunately AMD hasn't really given me anything to fanboy on lately and any new rig will (sadly
) have an intel CPU.
Now, the reason that's all going to be changing is that I had pulled the system completely apart just today to dremel in a new cable routing grommet (very bad case choice) and give it all a good clean with the compressor and get it ready for a Noctua NH-D14 and some experimental beginner/noob overclocking. Just when I was about ready to put it all together, along came my cat and kindly knocked my mobo - with CPU + heatsink/fan and RAM attached - knocked it all on to the concrete floor of the shed :banghead:
It all starts up but I just can't get any display. I've tried 2 graphics cards and the onboard graphics and just can't get anything. I've checked that everything is installed securely and it all is. Just seems to be FUBAR unfortunately.
Upgrading was on the to-do list but it was behind getting solar panels installed. It's just moved up to now
Unfortunately that moves solar back a fair bit but such is life.
I think that's enough of a story. I believe that there's an area on the forum here somewhere for posting shopping lists and getting ideas and input on that, so I'll move over to there (once I find it
) to post the rest - and probably include some of this again as well for anyone who hadn't seen it.
I'm looking forward to learning from everyones experiences with everything computer, especially getting in to water cooling, overclocking and possibly even some case modding in the slightly more distant future
