Hey everyone,

Thought I'd finally make an intro thread seeing how I've been lurking around for awhile. Started reading around here about 3 months ago after coming across TTL's Youtube channel, lots of great videos. This is one the few computer related forums I've seen that I really like people can have a discussion or debate without it turning into a flame war +1 for OC3D

Bit about me for anyone who cares, I've been building computers for the past 7 years ,I really enjoy it. Haven't done a lot of over clocking I'm fairly new to it though really want to give it a try. Had my previous E8400 rig OC'd to 3.15ghz pretty small OC but was playing safe. Been using laptops for the last 3 years as I had a run of bad luck in the old place I was living in when one of the water pipes burst while I was at work. Flooded the basement where the computer was and having a bottom mount PSU under water ended the life of that PC. Went back to school didn't have the cash to build a new rig, blah blah blah you all have heard those stories before.

Well now I'm looking to build a new gaming rig for BF3 and Skyrim. Currently I'm picking up parts as I go all I have is a NZXT phantom so far. Debating on if I want to wait for Sandy Bridge E and the 7XXX series graphics cards from AMD. Or just build one now with what's already on the market.

Anyways sorry for the long intro, looking forward to hopefully learning abunch.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone.

Picked up a computer the other day just to put something inside the phantom its pretty old but only cost $150 cad so roughly £92. The kid I bought it off said when he tried to install windows 7 and the hard drives died, didn't think much of it HDDs are cheap. Got it home went to boot with no OS both drives showed up in the boot menu. Tossed in a vista disc and everything works, not sure what he was going on about. I was told it was built in 2009 by a computer shop but after opening the case up I really hope it wasn't (pics will explain). But, it will hold me over until I get the new one built.

Specs:

Intel E8500

ASRock P45R2000 (The things has so many colours it looks like a rainbow board)

4gb DDR2 1066 memory

XFX 5770

2 250gb SATA II Seagate HDDs

850 watt OCZ PSU (No idea why it has an 850)

DVD burners using IDE connections....

Some horrible old case that had one side 80mm fan and one top 80mm that didn't work, this case was clearing a cooling extraordinaire haha.

Here are some rather frightening pics of when I opened it up.

Ahh Cable management at its finest. What worries me is like I said earlier apparently it was built by a computer store.

What is that rattling around? Are those rocks inside a case? Why yes, yes they are! How those got inside is beyond me.

I'll take some pictures of all that inside the phantom a bit later. With a slightly better attempt at cable management and with 100% less gravel.

Also I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

Welcome!

Looking forward to Skyrim myself, might be my excuse, erm perfectly valid reason to spend some more on hardware
