Hexamos

Update to this. Got my new AX760 and put it in today.

Well happy with the way everything looks now with the all black cables. I did spend a bit more time routing cables this time round and I also put back in the hard drive cages to fill the void and help hide the blue cable for the fans on the door.

I am not sure but my pc seems a little quieter now on idle which is nice.

Anyway more plans for this but will probably be a little while before the next upgrade.

Little update today. I received my new ssd. I got a sandisk 240gb extreme which now shall hold all my games. My old ssd will be used for the os and other things like autodesk, revit, vegas and photoshop ie college stuff. My hdd will now be a media and junk drive ie things like teamspeak and vent etc that do not need to be on a ssd.

I also got myself some Corsair Sp120 quiet edition fans today. I installed them first as they were nice and easy. First thing I noticed is when on full speed they are even more quite then the old H100 fans set to medium via the case fan controller. I havnt done any real temperature testing but the quick run I did seemed to signify that they also made my cpu run cooler but I will confirm that later.

I did complete fresh install for everything bar the hdd as I did not want to re download all my media again so the pc is like new again.

Some pics of the parts if your interested.

Installed- don't mind the dust it only shows up cause of the flash

and finally my ssd

The only other thing I did was move all the drives from the lower drive bays to the bay next to the front fan/under the optical bays. The reason was it was easier for cable routing and I would need to do it in the future when I watercool this thing because those lower bays will be going. Next thing on the list is save for water cooling.

Update time.

I picked these up as a treat to myself :)

I got two EVGA 680 backplates which look really nice and clean. They also seem to keep my gpus slightly cooler, around 2-3C which is nice.

I also picked up a second EVGA reference 680.

Here is a quick benchmark in 3dmark 11
Before sli

Sli

I tried Catzilla benchmark and got less points on tiger than I did on one gpu. I think this is an sli issue with the benchmark so will be reporting that on their forums in the thread.

Havnt really tried any games yet but will be testing over the coming days and I will report back with results.

Next for the project I am thinking of doing some cable braiding.

Right finally got catzilla working with sli. I tried it initially and couldn't help but notice the benchmark wouldn't go above 120 fps. I was thinking is it locked to the refresh rate or something. So after looking through the forums I eventually gave up. I looked through my evga precision x software to check temps and noticed I had the frame limiter on :rolleyes:

So here is my Catzilla benchmark result for the "Tiger" setting.

That result got me into the top 15 for the the "Tiger" setting so I am happy with that.

A few things:
1. The ONLY gripe I have with the Cosmos II is the damn price... and then only because I presently can't afford it x-P

2. LOVELOVELOVELOVE the way the rig looks with that Sabertooth board and the SLI'd 680's.

3. Now you need the Hydro Copper blocks to go with those 680's and their shiny back plates x-). Then OC the heck out of the cards and move into the top ten 8-D

Thanks

I do like the look of the sabertooth but I do prefer the Z77 version. If Asus made the X79 version like that even in a revision or v2 version I would so swap it out.

I originally planned on getting the EVGA hydro copper blocks but I saw the XSPC Razor block which looked nice too and would match the Raystorm CPU block I was planning on buying. That said this was when the HC2 was a good bit more expensive than the Razor. They are now both the same price so I will probably pick the HC2's up with the sli bridge and the EVGA black sli cable connector thingy. So it will all be black with some minor white touches.

The next plan however is cable sleeving when I get back paid and when the rest of my payments come through from my accident I will be watercooling and getting some dom plats to finish it off.

Going to be going with a black with white accent theme.

Right so I was going to do some cable braiding but after seeing Tom's video of the new Corsair kits I decided to buy one of them instead.

So while I was away these arrived.

24 pin
A7UTf5U.jpg

So I went to fit them yesterday and ran into an issue. The 24 pin won't fit. I think it is for the AX1200/AXi1200 as that is what it says on the connector itself. I did order one for the AX760 and it did say 760 on the invoice so maybe someone made a booboo oh well.

So I fitted the pcie and cpu cables while I wait. Here is a few pics of the rig atm. I will be tidying the cables up when I get the 24 pin for my psu but for now they will stay the way they are.

I didn't end up using the molex or sata power cables as they wont be seen.

Looks great, but I'd try to use some zip ties and bundle the PCIe cables as one unit until as close as you can to the cards themselves. Would look a light neater than the 2 separate cables, IMO.

The Cosmos 2 practically dwarfs the internal components. I love it

Thanks man. The current way the cables are is only temporary until I get the 24 pin sorted. I will be tying the 24 pin to the back of the motherboard tray and then tying the pcie cables to the 24 pin so for now everything is kinda just thrown in there.

I love the look of the cosmos 2. It is not just another rectangular box like a lot of tower cases.

Same here, I really think it looks pretty awesome. However, the advantage of
plain rectangular boxes (such as a Caselabs) is that efficiency of space usage
is a lot higher.

I actually considered going with the Cosmos II for HELIOS due to its looks,
but the fact that it has comparably little space for radiators considering its huge
dimensions ultimately deterred me from that choice. If you have a look at
MNPC Tech's Rebel project; they mod it to fit two 480's, which is still not a
lot of radiator for a case of this size imho.

You can't have everything, and there's always trade-offs, is the lesson here,
I suppose

Anyway, like the project, nice build you have here mate!

I get what your saying but for my personal needs I the cosmos 2 is fine. A 360 in the roof and 2 240s in the bottom should cool my system perfectly fine.

I am currently trying to get my 24 pin sorted atm heres hoping it goes painlessly.

Oh absolutely, I have no problem with the case itself, it just doesn't suit my
needs very well. But I think it's perfectly legitimate to do something different
for a change (and prioritize looks over space efficiency at least to some degree).

And as you said, just because it doesn't fit my needs does not make it an
unsuitable choice for others (that would not be a good world to live in  ).

Even though I like the efficiency of rectangular boxes, I wouldn't want the
market to consist only of them; I like variety. And I like looking at other
people's builds with all sorts of cases that maybe aren't suited to my own
needs but are nonetheless quite awesome.

The alternative would be a very boring world indeed I would reckon.

Update: The 24 pin finally came today :)
