Firstly, hello OC3D. I'm new so be gentle.

I'm currently building my first custom PC to replace (oh the shame) my Dell. I bought a few components to beef up my Dell before quickly realising a locked BIOS pretty much limits everything.

At that time I was on a tight budget, so the only things I'm taking from my Dell are the 1gig of xms2 RAM (675MHz), the Wester Digital 250GB/16MB cache hard drive and the DVD burner.

Then the bugdet got thrown out of the window. Decided I'll sell the 7300 GT after only one month as I just purchased two EVGA 7900GT Signature Series cards for an amazing price, they arrive at the end of this week.

For the CPU I am pretty much decided on the E6600 with the new P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP due out mid Sept. (http://zeus.asus.com/hq/products4.aspx?modelmenu=1&model=1325&l1=3&l2=11&l3=337)

I opted for the Hyper Type-R 580w Blue psu.

Ummm, guess thats it for now. I have grand plans for watercooling the 2 gfx cards, CPU and northbridge. Not really sure what system to go for though...

Oh, case is a Thermaltake Ocean dome (blue/black).

So, thoughts/criticisms/opinions/advice?

The motherboard is really where my uncerntity lies. It supports Conroe and has the new n590 SLi chipset so should be the business???

I look forward to picking your brains!

Welcome to the forums! post all quireies in the approperaite place and we'll do our best.

I have already purchased the PSU! I read a few reviews that rated it... Why do you recommend the Tagen?

The only components I don't own are the E6600 and the mobo - which I will buy in one week and two weeks respectivly, unless someone recommends a better Conroe/SLi mobo?????

Thanks for the input though

Welcome to OC3D mate, glad you decided to join our community! I hope that you stick with us.

Post up any questions you might have in the corresponding forums and we'll make certain to get you well taken care of.

I would recommend the Tagan because it’s quiet and more stable rails and has a better build quality the hiper also don’t have a good rep like they used to.

I know this because I have a hiper and I when I built my friends computer I got him a tagan easycon

Shame - I'm stuck with the Hiper now...

My major issue is the mobo.

I mentioned the http://zeus.asus.com/hq/products4.aspx?modelmenu=1&model=1325&l1=3&l2=11&l3=337

This is Conroe SLi. No reviews yet, it's released here (UK) in a weeks time...

I did a bit of digging and found this DFI board

I like the look of this one. Again - no reviews.

If anyone has any info on either of these or a good alternative I'd love to hear about them, and why they are better than these two.

Cheers again

I have that particular Hiper PSU and it's great! It's very quiet and I've had no problem with it whatsoever (touch wood).. Considering the price, features & performance, its a very good buy.

It's not a "cheap" PSU when you compare it to the likes of ebuyer value stuff or those horid QTECs, but rest assured its competent against the big boys. :p

I have a feeling that the nF590 LanParty board is going to be a monster. I just have a "feeling" about it :) No real proof or anything :p I've always had good luck with Lanparty boards in the past.

if you want to spend a little more on the mobo go for an E6300 theyre cheaper and actually looking to be better clockers than the 6600

I was of the understanding that, yes both the E6300 & E6400 overclock much better than the E6600, up to 60%+

However, these performance gains are neutralised once you overclock the E6600, not to mention the E6600's got 4MB L2 cache over the E3/4's 2MB...
