Ok guys (Mav especially:wink: ) got a weird one for you.....

I KNOW my cpu can do 2.6ghz easily as it has done in my system and my friends and it will happily run 2 instances of prime etc BUT i have recently (past 2 months) been getting blue screens.... EVEN AT STOCK SPEEDS FOR EVERYTHING!!!:@

My spec is below. I tried running the onboard memtest with my ram @ 200mhz (3-4-4-10) and it had errors all over the place. Do you think this is what it would be? Surely ram should pass memtest at it's stock speeds??:?

Is it worth flashing to another bios for greater compatibility? If so which should i go for?:?

Also one last thing... (If all was working well) and i set my cpu multi to 10 and the fsb to 240mhz and drop the htt multiplier to 4x on a 166 divider should everything technically work as if it were it's defaults (except the cpu would be 2400mhz)? Only the motherboard is technically underclocked as it would be a 960mhz fsb instead of 1000. Is that right?:?

THANKS GUYS!!! :)

I would advise flashing the bios,i use 704-2 for my BH5 as i found it the best for my board. It depends on what ram you are using -1 is for tccd -2 for bh5 and -3 is for general, everyboard is different give it a go its quick and easy:D

Have you ever had the ram you are using work on the Dfi board? I had same problem with a set of Corsai pc3200 xms xl & pc4400 xms and tried every bios going but it none worked. in the end it turned out to be a compatibillity issue with the ram and board. I switched to Ocz and then Mushkin and it worked fine.

I take it you have tried different slots?

Ram gives errors in other boards too and tried different slots, 2 generic 512mb don't give errors but only had them for 30mins so didn't have a chance to test for crashes.

Sounds like your ram is knackered, use the orange slots for the Dfi board, try testing one stick at a time that wat you can determine which if not both sticks are broken.

i wouldn't worry about the 123% volt limit as unless you are using a cascade you will never nedd to pump that many volts through your cpu,the most i have ever needed was 113%

Yeah it soulds to be a dodgy dimm. Try the usual trying them one at a time in the first orange slot at 250ht and see if one is putting out errors and one isn't. What ram are you having probs with?

I agree with all the things said here - if the ram is failing memtest on other boards then ram is useless I am afraid mate - time for a new set of ram.

If I have misunderstood what you are saying and RAM is fine on all other boards then try my BIOS RAM settings to get the stability u need.

Cheers

What ram settings should i be using for this ballistix? i know you have posted great stuff about using other sets of ram, can you direct me to where i can find the best settings for this ballistix.

*ALSO* about 75% of the time i boot up my system it runs chkdsk??? could ram be the cause of this??? I have swapped out the hard drive for a brand new one but still the same??? couls it be the sata wire (it's a long 1.5m uv blue akasa one)?

Well it deffo sounds ominous - try a different stick of ram.

I'll get some ballistix settings for ya although be warned that ballistix RAM is showing real signs of long term reliability issues.

Also - try a different SATA connector or even a different SATA Port.

Have swapped both my sata ports and cables and also swapped out the ram for 2x1gb (6 layer) ram, no bsod's or crashes or chkdsk's yet ;) however now i have no idea which was causing the probs :?
