help with setup raid

i have an asus motherboard with 6 sata ports i have never used raid before, what i am whanting to do is put 6 1.5TB HDDs in them can i set it up to just show as 3 drives and the other 3 drives mirriring them

setup sata ports like 1+2 on raid 1 and 3+4 on raid 1 and 5+6 on raid 1

this is for my home file server is that config ok or is thare an better way uther than have a second server as a backup

running windows server 2008

I would go RAID5 if your MB can do it, this will give 7.5 TB of raw data capacity but also resiliance. If you create 3 x RAID 1 drives you effectively lose 4.5 TB of capacity
